DVC new 2005 Annual Discount - I am only eligible for just ONE !

I don't think of it as a reduction in dues cost - I was just giving an example that shows how this discount could appear unfair.

We probably will only take advantage of this perk on occasion as we only go to WDW once a year for a week and PH's work better for us, but I can understand why the OP is not happy. He bought into the same club as everyone else.... just because his guests are not living with him they are not given the same opportunity for a discount as others. This is not like the Florida resident discount.... We all belong to the same club he does - we just have more people living with us. Why should extended family get a discount just for living with someone? Sorry, this one doesn't make sense to me. (And $100 is still a lot of money to me-especially when you multiply it by several family members! )

I think it's a WONDERFUL perk (which I hope continues) but I see it from both sides.

I am Not mad, just more silly, that "me myself and I" get one discount.

I think Disney should be applauded for doing something for us.

I like the idea of getting 10 to 15 percent discounts for hopper plus tickets, for people checking in with you at the DVC resorts, that would be a nice alternative as well. (On top of the discount you get when you do "advance" ordering. The Ultimate Hopper is not a relaxing pace for my crew.

The big part of my message, was "tongue in cheek" oriented.
I am glad some of you got that point.

I still wonder if Snow White and the 7 dwarfs would all get their 8 maximum discounts or not, it could make for sore feelings if they didn't (especially with Grumpy).

I have decided to not renew my annual pass in mid December, and instead wait for the next visit in 2005 to Disney. The renewal saves just a little, but the new annual pass saves 100.00, and starts on the first day of my next 2005 visit. So I do get a special savings from the DVC member services.

I absolutely,positively agree.

Awhile back in another "perk wish list" type thread, we were all hoping for a 10% on various park media. Basically, we got a 25% discount on the only park pass that gives some of the best WDW discounts availible: 10% off WoD and 50% off mini golf just to name two.

I live by myself and don't see this as a problem. If friends and family want the discount then they too should buy into DVC (and many friends have!).

I'm happy that Disney has extended this discount to us.

I can see why some people who live alone could feel a little left out with this most recent benefit. It isn't anything I personally would get upset over, but I can see the disapointment potential. The point amount shouldn't matter in my eyes, but it does seem a little slanted to benefit people who have numerous extended family living at the same address. I think there should be an allowance for people who are empy nesters, or are single, people who have signifigant others living in seperate homes.

Disney, in my opinion, should be saying that the discount applies to everyone in the house of a member or family members up to a certain number, say 4 for people who are living alone. There are many perks for DVC members which the member can share with extended family or anyone for that matter. When you go to Oliva's to get your dining discount for example, they don't ID people and only discount the meals for people living in the same house. If you think about it some renters who rent points from members get Disney member discounts simply because they are considered members in the system, even when they aren't.

Disney has to make sure the discount is being used fairly and not be misused, I agree with that 100%. You can't have a member coming in and buying APs for 30 people who aren't related and potentially profiting from it. But I think there could be some flex in there for members who have different living situations. What if someone has their 25 year old kids living at home while someone else has them living on their own. How is it fair to the member in that situation? I think we will probably see this thing tweeked before it is all over.

That was my thought also. I can imagine DVC never having given people like Phil a second thought about how they vacation. Hopefully they'll read his e-mail and think "Hmmmm, sonofagun he's right" and "tweek" the program for him.

Well, assuming that either Snow or Doc are actually on the deed, since they all live in that one cottage, they should be able to get the 8 maximum passes.

I think I can agree that this per household thing is a bit unfair.

Originally I figured it wasnt a big deal either way, but now I have shifted a bit and actually the more I think about, per household is just absolutely crazy. cant you just hear the complaints already?

-they moved in with us last year but havent changed any of their address info yet

- grandma lives with us 6 months out of the year and down south the other 6

- we get the grandkids every summer, so they technically live with us

Actually I never even thought about it, but neither mine nor my wifes license's have our current address and Im certainly not going to go wait at dmv all day and pay for a new license just to save 100 dollars

I wouldnt be surprised if this per point idea some folks have mentioned becomes the rule eventually. Its just too much hassle to argue with everyone about how many people they have in their household.

Would be much easier to say ok 100 points 2 passes, 150 points 3 passes, 200 points 4 passes or whatever

Its never been too much of a hassle for the Florida resident discounts. Disney has been doing it this way for years. Prove you are a Florida resident and all adults living at that address (minor children haven't had to prove anything, making it always easy for grandparents to get resident rates for grandkids) get the discount. If Dad moves in with you for six months, Dad had better have a Florida license or ID.

If anything, I'm guessing Disney is doing it this way because its easy to administer and they have a lot of experience with it. The difference between this and the Florida resident discount - a blue DVC card.

I really did send the "email" to MEMBER SERVICES.

I hope they are laughing, it is my attempt to make them feel silly on the subject.

It is interesting if one's child just moved out of the house, and now lives elsewhere, they would loose the annual discount.
I guess the children should never move out until the DVC Timeshare period expires in the year 2042 I think.

Until then, all children must remain with their DVC parents, or only marry into other DVC Families.

That could work !

I was wondering if my fiancee would get the discount? We have a house together and he is able to make ressies for our DVC trips although he is not on the deed. Since we have the same address how would they know if he is my fiancee or my BIL living in the same house? Since if you live with your BIL he is able to get your discount.

I am not quite sure this is really the same thing here. I think its a bit easier to determine if someone is from a certain state than from a certain household

Besides the fact it doesnt take into account someone who can only get 1 pass who may have 1000 points or more. Fl resident discounts are easy 1 resident 1 pass. here you could have 1 dvc member-8 passes or 1 dvc member-1 pass


Keep in mind I have no real issue with it, we have 2 people in our household and both are on the deed and I am probably not getting the AP's anyway so I really could care less either way. i just think, after reading some posts, there are easy ways.
