We ordered the DVC dvd, and my DH recieved a phone call from a VC guide who would like 90 minutes of our time. We are planning on purchasing in the near future possibly. Do they try to keep you for hours and hours or hardsale you in anyway? We are down there to vacation not spend hours being bullied into a timeshare commitment.

No, it's not a hard sell at all -- very low key; no bullying.

Thanks, we have never looked into a timeshare before but we really love Disney and the fact that we can use our points for the cruise and to go overseas and such. One just hears horror stories about timeshares, but I figured being Disney it would not be like that. :goodvibes

lol. I think I harassed my guide more than vice versa. I purchased by phone and in that first call he just went over the program (maybe 45 minuts). Then I spent the next two weeks calling him with 'just one more question'.

No pressure, no hard sell. A great experience.

I agree - this is definitely a low pressure experience. Let them know of any time constraints when you arrive and they will work around your schedule. But in order to do justice to this, you should plan on at least an hour.

We figured about two hours. But we don't plan on purchasing until Jan. 2009 and I do not wish to waste the gentleman's time. I graduate and will be working outside the home then and we will have a sizable debt paid off just before then. I love going to Disney but my husband want to also go on cruises and travel overseas. I want to do those things too, but I was telling him to my understanding you can do all those things with the DVC! So I ordered the dvd to give him an idea and a couple weeks later DH received a phone call and he thought we would check it out. We also received a book today and I have to say I am more excited! :goodvibes

You don't get hard selling tactics from Disney, but you should be aware that they will offer you the current incentives with a deadline (usually 3 days after you return home) to take up the offer. If you don't take up the offer you are likely to have to wait for a new incentive to be offered or pay full price.

Also you may get a better incentive if you can provide the name of an existing member, I suggest you look at http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1241943 and get a US member as a referral.

First, you won't be wasting the gentleman's time. Once they have made the contact with you, they are your guide and when you buy, you will buy from him. Also, using DVC to travel overseas is nice, but on the whole it is not the best way to make use of your points. I suggest doing these trips on occassion only and using the majority of your points for trips to DVC resorts and not vice versa.

We were told by our Guide that if you don't take the incentive in three days, you can do the tour again and the same incentive offer will apply, providing it's still current.
:)

No hard sell at all.

We purchased OKW the first year of DVC during a promotional stay at OKW. Great experience.

We have since purchased VWL and AKV and have never looked back!

Good Luck!

No hard sell at all, just the 3 day "urging"- but we toured last Tuesday and today (1 week later) put down our deposit on AKV, and we got all the incentives. We spent almost 2 hours total on the tour (including when they picked us up at BC and then dropped us off at AK). The guide forgot to give us the $15 pp vouchers, so then they picked us up at AK when we were done riding Expedition Everest (WOOHOO! LOVE that ride!), gave us the vouchers, and then drove us to EPCOT- it was VERY worthwhile to go on the tour, I am so, so glad we did!:yay: :cheer2:

We aren't planning on purchasing until early 2009 when I graduate Dec. 2008 and start working outside the home and we make the last payment on what was a sizable debt, again 2008. I was mainly trying to show DH all the wonderful things you could do with a DVC membership besides "just go to Disney" year after year...

Should we wait until closer to that time? I dont want to waste the person's time, I was just trying to show DH how awesome it would be...;) :upsidedow

Even if you don't buy now...the two hours will be spent in further educating yourself in the details of DVC and its an opportunity to ask a bunch of questions.
