:confused:Can anyone tell me how much it is to purchase a DVC Membership for 2010 for Animal Kingdom Lodge? Also do you get to do the disney dining package and ticket discounts? I'm trying to decide if this is for my family. The agent I tried to talk to was "are you buying or not" and didn't let me ask questions. Thanks for any help in advance.princess:

It all depends on how many points you need or want and if you buy through Disney or through a resale.

You can check over on the DVC boards for more info!

Here is the lastest info from DVCnews.com This is the price per point and incentive offers for new members.

New Member Purchase

$112 base price less $12 promotional discount; 160-269 points
$112 base price less $14 promotional discount; 270+ points

Special Offer 1: Free Walt Disney World and Disneyland Annual Passes with purchase. Incentives are as follows:

Special Offer 3: With the "Magical Beginnings" program, save an extra $5 per point by selling-back first year's points to DVC

You need to talk to another agent... you really need to understand everything before you buy! I am sure some members can pm you some names. We bought resale so I can't help in that area.

I think Animal Kingdom is selling around $112 a point with some incentives to make the price a little lower. You said "for 2010"; DVC is not a one shot deal. You buy points and get them every year. Every year you pay a maintenance fee for each point (about $4 to $5 a point).

There isn't a discount for tickets, but you can get a $100 discount on Annual Passes.

You've come to the right place for answers. Good luck.:thumbsup2

Thanks for the info. I would need the 220 point value points. I plan to do every other year at AKL 2 bdr. villa 13 days, or every year 1 week AKL 2bdrm. Can you tell me what is banking points or borrowing points thanks again.;)

Banking points is where you "save" the points for the next year or so. Once they are banked you can not use them until the next year.

Example: You had 220 points come available on Feb.2010, you would have to bank them by Sept. 2010 and you could NOT use them until Feb. 2011
You could however borrow points from 2011, if you decided to go after you banked your points in 2010.

Borrowing points is where you use the next year's point in the current year.

The most points you could ever have is the past years banked points, current years points and the coming years points.

Example in 2011 you could have 2010 banked points, 2011 current points and borrow 2012 points for a total of 660 points.

HTH

Just always make sure you are really sure before you bank or borrow points because once you do...they can not be returned to their original use year.

Having the abilitly to bank and borrow are wonderful features of the DVC!

We banked our first year of points and are using them in May! We are bringing my best friend and her children for 5 nights/6 days! We got ourselves a 2 bedroom standard view- Kidani Village and got her a one bedroom! We also added on 2 nights at BLT as a surprise for our kids prior to my friend's arrival!

You absolutely need to consider the resale market. You can get a much lower price per point. Right now I see that Timeshare Store has quite a few loaded contracts in the 200 pt range for $83-$85 per point.

Call back and ask for a new guide. If the guide isn't willing to help you learn about DVC, you don't want that person to get the commission on your purchase if you decide to purchase directly from Disney.

Head over to the DVC Boards and read all the threads there to get more info. It will be a real education for you. Good luck on making a decision.

The only ticket discount currently is the Annual pass discount. No others.

Exactly what I was going to recommend! Come and visit us on the DVC boards and we'll help you out! Just wanted to mention though that as DVC members we are NOT eligible for Disney promos such as free dining, but we do get an AP discount as mentioned, and we are the only guests who can book any Disney Dining packages without having to buy tickets (we can do so up to 48 hours before arrival).

Since your location says you live in LA, take a day trip down to DLR! We bought Bay Lake, but our guide is right there in Anaheim, and considering he took our phone calls for almost two YEARS before we finally bought in, I'm thinkin' he is NOT the guide you were dealing with. Good people at the Anaheim office; it's worth a trip!

If you are thinking of resale, I highly recommend www.**********.com with Jaki and ****. They are wonderful and very informative! I just purchased my first DVC with them and think I got a great deal.
I ended up buying Saratoga Springs because I could get more points then with AKV and also, my DH and I like to stay at a different resort each trip so buying a specific home just wasn't a priority for us! I booked AKV 5 months out for my April trip, and honestly I thought that I would have trouble booking but every resort was available in the studio and 1 and 2 bedroom. I couldn't believe it. The low maintance fees are a plus too.
Sometimes when you buy resale, you can buy one with accumulated points on it, Ours had banked '08,'09 points on it plus more to come this year!
We bought 150 points for 10k. I was happy with it.
Also a plus with DVC is that you can buy the dining plan and not have to buy park tickets with it.
Good luck in your search!

If you buy DVC resale do you have the same perks available that you do if you buy it directly? For instance, trading with RCI? I know that with SVC (shell vacation club) you don't get the same perks when you buy resale. DBF and I have 2500 pts a year w/SVC but we were thinking of adding more with a resale but found out the points won't work for what we wanted them for so we didn't.

We want DVC but SVC was better for us right now. I'm hoping in a few years we might be able to get DVC tho. :) Especially with the Villas at the GCH. :)

Right now, DVC doesn't treat member who buy in via resale any differently than those who buy directly from Disney. But that could change, who knows??

Thanks for all the info. Everything is so interesting to learn. Thanks for pro's and con's also. princess:

OP, since you live in CA, I have to ask: Will you be visiting DL or WDW more?

If the answer is DL, consider buying into the Grand Californian. If it is WDW, BLT or AKV are your bet. The resort you pick is important, since you can reserve your home resort months before folks that own other resorts. This helps the chances of your vacation dates being available.

Hi! I'll be visiting wdw on vacations. I live 20 minute drive from DL :cool1: so going home to sleep is no problem. I love the looks of the AKV resort.princess:

As I mentioned, you can buy "at" a WDW property from a guide in Anaheim. We did!
