DVC members

I am sure this thread will get moved, but I thought I would answer.

It is more than just an awesome suite. It is having a pre-paid vacation for 50 years. It is the ability to use your vacation points not just at Disney, but all over the world. We like to know that one year we can book at small studio for just DH and I or a 3 bedroom grand villa for the entire family.

Sure we get small discounts here and there, and a pretty good chunk off of AP's, but it is more than just discounts.

49 years of Disney Magic! We just joined over the summer and it's wonderful. We get a discount on APs and some other small discounts but that's not really why you join. We did it b/c we love Disney and want to take our DD there-a lot. This guarntees we'll go!

we get a discount on AP - 10% to 20% off on some of the restuarants.

but as had been noted you don't buy DVC for the discounts - they are not guaranteed.

you can also use your points to stay in the WDW resorts (but way more expensive than staying in a studio - a studio is like a resort room only it has a kitchennett).

I can actually save money using my points. I stay in studios a bunch!!! Some others can't. If you go from a hotel room to a 2-bedroom villa - well in the end it will cost you. I think that is why some people get mad at DVC.

but if you treat your points like money (wish they are) - you can save money with it - in 7 to 10 years. (after your mortgage is pay off)

:confused3 Well, as of January 2005, I believe there is a substantial discount on the Annual Pass. You might want to check this for accuracy. I noticed that some mentioned the benefits for 50 years into the future, which is true; but do look at it as an investment. since my first point acquisitions, those points have pretty much doubled if I were to buy or were able to buy them today! Regardless of the price, it's still a wonderful place for all...

Opps; I wrote "since 2000" The "Mrs." advised: "Since 1999"

Besides an awesome suite, what benefits do you get that you wouldn't get by just staying on Disney property?
We like to stay in the deluxe resorts but only if we can get an AP or general public discount rate. Since those discounts seem to be few and far between these days, we joined DVC so that we could continue to stay in deluxe accommodations without sweating out that wait for AP discounts. So the benefit we get is being able to book our accommodations 11 months in advance -- it has made our WDW vacation planning a lot less stressful!

You know, there is SO much information available, I kind of find myself in a 'Data Overload' state when I see all these great Disney Sites. Although I have been a DVC member since 2000 and a Disney Fan since Day One of Disney California, I'm lost when it comes to some of the terms and acronyms, like "AP"... Where do I find the Cheat Sheet or Cliff Notes for the answers to these terms?

HTH!!! :teeth:

Super Great! Thanks!
This Venue has paid off already! I just knew there would be a Disney Samaritan to my rescue...

If you're going to Disney in the near future, be sure and visit the DVC desk in the lobby of your hotel if you're staying onsite - it's a great way to see what DVC members enjoy so much and a nice tour for a short amount of time and absolutely no pressure whatsoever - like having a free personal resort tour without a big sales pitch. We're DVC members and go once or twice a year - no regrets and we tell everyone how great it is - happiest moment every trip is pulling into the DVC resort and reading the "Welcome Home" sign at the gate!!!
