Question for all the dvc members. I work with a buddy that is dvc and he said that within 10min of dis announcing the opening of swge, dvc was booked out. Now everyone is selling there booking for a ton of money. He is even considering selling his time and just staying offsite because of the amount of money he will make. I dont know how all the dvc works but is something that alot of dvc members are goin to do.

Not true at all. Plenty of DVC availability for the first week of September.

Keep in mind that many DVC members book their home resort 11 months ahead of when they plan to go and 7 months out if they are staying on points at a DVC resort that is not their home resort. That means many of those who planned on staying in late August or September would have already booked before the announcement was made about the August opening.

As of right now there is still availability for that time period so it definitely didn’t book up completely 10 minutes after the announcement. The week of 8/24-8/31 has full or partial availability across every DVC resort and room category as of a few minutes ago.

Reason i ask was because hes been tryn to sell me on dvc but i prefer to stay offsite. I dont see him telling me something not true, so i prob misunderstood what he was sayn, ill talk with him tmrw. Thanks for the info.

I'm thinking yes you could make a lot and sell a premium type room around then. But you could also do the same thing and book a room during the holidays and sell that as well. I think the majority of DVC owners love Disney and want to stay onsite and they'd keep their reservation.

We own DVC and love it but do your research before buying. There's a few good forums here on the Dis. There are different rules and perks now depending on when and where you buy your DVC contract. Very loosely, DVC makes sense if if you go to WDW every other year and stay at a moderate level resort or higher. If you stay offsite I doubt DVC will make sense financially. That being said, I will give you an example of how DVC allows our family to stay at the best Disney resorts at a huge discount. We couldnt find availability for the 4 nights we wanted in a 2 bedroom villa at the Beach Club. Unfortunately the night we needed was in the middle. I reserved the night paying cash, WITH an AP discount , for $1242. That's for 1 night. Thankfully, the room came through on DVC points at a "cost" to me of $420. My cost would be my original investment as well as DVC dues, I didn't have to actually put out $420.

DVC member here.

Rooms did not completely sell or book out within 10 minutes.
Fall is the most difficult time to get rooms already, so it may get a tad bit tougher this year.
You really need to crunch numbers in order to buy-not sure today's prices are worth it, we came in via resale in 2012/13.

For every post that I've seen saying "we're going xx-xx-xxxx dates now" I've seen another post saying "oh crap, we didn't expect this so soon, we'll cancel our trip til the traffic dies down".

We’re long-time DVC members and we’ve never rented out points. We’re too busy using them ourselves! :) Fall is a busy time for DVC booking in a “normal” year.

We love DVC, but it’s not for everyone. Research, ask questions and rent if you’re interested in one of the DVC resorts.

Personally I would schedule to leave before an opening... Most DVC members are in it for the long haul and go when it is less crowded or for a specific time of year. Most also do not rent points unless they have to... Be aware that as per the DVC contract you can not rent points for profit but you can rent excess points on occasion... Are there people who buy contracts to rent yes... is star wars land opening a must to attend... for some but it is only phase one opening what ever that means...I read about it I am already booked to leave the day before the opening thought about changing but do not want to deal with the weekend crowds in combination with the opening... I will see it when I go next year..

We own at VGC and I didn't notice anything particular re: SWGE. In fact, my weekend waitlist for Halloween went through a few days ago, just before the 7 month window opened up for everyone.

Because of the supply constraints at VGC, most studios and 1 bedrooms are unavailable in the 7 month window anyway, regardless of what's going on in-park.
