As a new DVC member, I am deciding on whether to purchase an annual pass. I know one benefit is a discounted AP. I know many reasons to get the AP and finding few not to get one. In what cases would the annual pass not make sense?

If you are planning more than 1 trip in a 12 month period its totally worth it. But if its just 1 trip then a normal ticket would be cheaper.

Considering Disney doesn't have "annual passes" any more, just Platinum, Platinum Plus, Gold, Silver and they aren't available to every guest. There is a discount for DVC members on Gold and Platinum and Platinum Plus.

You wouldn't want to waste money on these passes if you couldn't use them for at least ten or more days. You need to compare the price of MYW tickets with the new passes. So if you only plan one trip a year, you plan one for one year and then plan the other to start and end within the 365 days. Like you book July 1-8 for the first year and book June 23-July 1 the next year. We're are pretty lucky this year. We have four DVC trips (one was only one night) and two cash trips all on one AP (our son started working there this summer and we wanted to see him, thus the one night trip and the two cash trips).

My rule is more than 1 trip in the 12 month period before I will consider an AP.

The number days you will be going to the parks is what I would focus on. If other tickets are less expensive for the total days you are doing, then unless there are other features of the AP you want, why get one? Don't forget to also look ahead and see what future visits may be and thus if an AP renewal price also makes a difference in the overall total cost of the two year period.

We just got back and have the new AP. We had a blast with the Memory Maker which is now included. We have 2 trips planned so that would have been a huge cost for both trips had we opted to buy it. The photos are available almost instantly on our phones which was fun. It was nice that my husband was not missing from all the pictures since he is usually behind the camera.

In the past we typically made a few short trip per year and the break even price point was around the 9 day mark. If we had more days than that in a calendar year we bought AP. Less than that and we bought 10 day non expiring park hoping passes. You just have to run the numbers and see what is a better purchase for you.

My wife and I never go to Disney over prime holidays but this year we are doing a DCL christmas cruise. So we are going to do a couple of days before the cruise 22 - 24 Dec. Since these are black out dates we had to bump up to the platinum plus AP. We hated spending that extra money when we know these are the only two days we are going to use them but didn't want to waste any of our "banked" non expiring park hoping passes we bought before Disney stopped selling those.

It's all about the numbers. How many park days do you want during the 12 month period from the first day of your next vacation?

If it turns out that a DVC discounted pass fits your plans, consider buying certificates for future years if you can afford it. That gives you the benefit of todays prices for future vacations.

We have 10 years plus of admission media already purchased. One of our tickets is dated from 2008.

I've noticed that at least half of your posts are you starting new threads. Might I humbly suggest using the search function as virtually all of what you're looking for has been discussed in the past rather than making almost every post a new thread. The search function was a great resource for me when I was going through the DVC purchase process a couple of years ago as there is a ton of useful information out there.

we still have days left on our old never expire tickets we bought a few years ago. Right now we go to DW maybe one day while we are there and hit three parks in one day. With the annual pass it might be nice to go for a couple hours here and there and go to Epcot for dinner more than once because we wouldn't hsve to use a days ticket to get in. Once our last tickets expire we might consider it depending on the price.
