Are there penalties for booking outside the DVC Resorts ? I will be a member at SSR and I do see that the points are better with staying at the DVC resorts. Im really not that clear on this point.

:worship:......Educate me masters of DVC.......:worship:

Sorry if this has been posted before...I promise I looked!

$95 transaction fee and additional $95 fee if you make change to original reservation ( exceptions being DisneyLand resort hotels & Ft.Wilderness campsites). Cancellation will return all points as Reservation points which means you cannot use them to rebook at a DVC resort ( since they are considered 'traded-out' of the DVC system with your initial reservation ) and those points will expire at the end of the UY during which the trip would have happened. So the points can't be banked, even if you have bankable points as part of the reservation. Also you cannot use these Reservation points from the canceled Disney Collection, Adventurer etc. reservation to book into the World Passport Collection either.

Thank you very much for that reply.

Where can you find this kind of info? I have been told how things work within the DVC resorts but am not privileged to little ins and outs like this. I feel there is so many more things that I should know while buying points. These things will stray me from buying as I am already in a contract to buy, I would just like to know.

When you close and are in the system, you will get access to the member website. It really is the final work on all the rules and regulations, etc.
Meanwhile, and after and ongoing, these boards are a great source of information, and alot of helpful people too. Welcome.:flower3:

I guess my thought was to know before you purchase. I don't think anyone is trying to hide something, I would just like to know.

There are restrictions whenever you trade outside the DVC system of resorts. As others have mentioned, there is a $95 fee to trade out to anywhere except Disneyland (which may change, since there is a DVC resort there now) or Ft Wilderness campsites. And once those points have left DVC, they can no longer be used at DVC. Those points have been turned over to cash reservations (or RCI, in the World Passport collection) to offset the cost of the non-DVC lodging. You can not bank them, and any change is another $95 processing fee. If you are wanting to use DVC primarily for non-DVC resort stays, I would suggest paying cash for those stays, or purchasing a less expensive timeshare. The non-DVC options are really designed for those wanting an occasional break from a DVC resort stay using their points.
