most of you probaly know by now that americas funniest home videos is giving away two 220 point dvc membership. what you may not know is that disney will not pay for this, disney vacation club will pay for this ( i wonder how they are going to get the money) from us of course. whoever wins will pay no annual fees or no exchange fees if they ever have any. with over 90000 members we will probaly only be paying about 1 dollar a person. so the cost is almost nothing. i dont watch the show but i will bet when the show mentions this they are thanking disney world and not disney vacation club members.

I wondered about that too. It makes me want to quick do a funny video to see If I can get a free add-on! ;)

I seriously doubt if DVC members are paying for this. In fact, I do not think that it would be even legal for DVC to charge members for this.

I'm very sure it is a marketing promotion and being paid for by the Developer out of its advertising budget. And FWIW, the Developer is a part of the Disney Corporation, so Disney is ultimately paying for it.

Best wishes -

They showed the AD at the annual meeting today. Everything specifically mentions Disney Vacation Club. Also I believe the money for this would come from Marketing budgets since this is an advertising.

That is just what I was thinking. If we start going that way it gets ugly. We pay for the guides, the free cotten candy they used to give out, the Disney Magic mag etc....... I don't like my guide, I am the person paying her salary, I think she should be fired.

It goes from members being magical, to nick picky! :rotfl:

Disney Vacation Development (DVD) and the DVC resorts' operating budgets are not the same thing.

DVD is the subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company that develops and markets Disney Vacation Club (DVC) resorts.

Each DVC resort has an operating budget which is funded by the annual dues of the members/owners at that resort. The dues cover actual costs of operating the resort, including taxes and reserves, plus an approx. 2% management fee (profit) for Disney.

The members' annual dues do not pay for DVD's marketing costs. We don't pay the guides' salaries. We don't pay for the full color magazine ads promoting DVC. And we don't pay for the DVC booths around WDW. If DVD is giving away DVC memberships and dues on America's Funniest Home Videos, then you can be sure that the upfront cost is coming out of DVD's marketing budget, and the ongoing dues are probably funded by something like an annuity, again paid out of DVD's marketing budget.

DVD has a cost structure, which includes construction and marketing costs, that is recovered through the sale of DVC points (undoubtedly providing a tidy profit).

It's called advertising.....And Horace is right. Your dues don't pay for advertising, but your buy in does!

The point that CarolA and I were making is that there is a big difference between the development/marketing ledger and the DVC resort operating ledgers. Our dues do not pay for advertising and other marketing expenses.

The OP stated that DVC members will pay directly for the DVC promotion on America's Funniest Home Videos — that the money would come "from us of course." The OP estimated that it would work out to about $1 per DVC member, and that the show really should be thanking "Disney Vacation Club members." But the OP is mistaken.

Sorry if it didn't come across that way, but I was agreeing with you all! :teeth:

The members will pay for it when they buy in. It will be factored into the purchase price per point.
