DVC Members now total more than...

Thanks Doc-you are always right on top of all things DVC!! Your passion for this runs deep and is much appreciated!

I must say I am at the same time jealous and impressed by the top 10 list posted by ncligs of big point owners. It is something to aspire to!

Perhaps new info would include an option to extend the time of our contracts to match that of SSR .

Disney4ever-how about DVC resort transport that takes DVC members to other resorts. This mini-bus would only stop at DVC resorts.

Thanks for all the info Doc - looking forward to our new guidebook and any new perks announcements we may receive. It's always nice to read the thoughts of different members here and I'm really glad that the DVC CM's are watching too!

It sounds like we can expect some changes in the guidebook. It is a very expensive item to produce and mail to members and has changed very little from year-to-year. We may find an initial guidebook for new members, followed by an update (point charts, etc.) for those who've already received the book. Regular updates on the website and in VM will complete the dissemination of current information. It's also possible to find some changes in availability of some information for resale purchasers. (It may be wise to ask the seller to provide things like guidebooks and POS in the future.)

As for the availability of online access...stay tuned...for awhile longer...quite awhile longer. It sounds like an upgrade of the company-wide interface is in the works and may finally provide an opportunity for some online DVC access, but nothing is likely in the immediate future.

Stay Tuned!

Isn't that what they did away with a few years ago? We used to have a master book that was updated yearly for points charts and program changes. I thought they did away with it because members weren't doing their updates and would just phone with questions. I thought it was kind of silly to produce virtually the same book every year, but they touted it as a new feature!

I would prefer a loose-leaf notebook so that I can add or remove pages. When we went to a meeting at BWV in June they had point pages for the different resorts. I thought that was a great idea and would think that would be less expensive for DVD in the long run. I guess I'lll just stay tuned . . . . Annmarie

Through 2000 we did have a loose-leaf notebook for our guidebook. It was divided into sections (as is the current guidebook) and each year only updates were sent out- with instruction as to which section it should be inserted.

I do think the newer style guidebook is cheaper to produce intially, but the old updates were undoubtedly less costly than a new book each year. These changes are part of the ongoing trial/error approach to find what works best, both from a member standpoint, staff standpoint and cost standpoint.

Stay Tuned!!!

As always special "pixie dust" to you for keeping us informed and thanks for the tip (snip) opportunity for some online DVC access... is what we can look forward to.

Thanks for the update Doc.

I, for one, love the loose leaf. I still use it. I've razored out all of the pages from the past two guidebooks, hole-punched them, and inserted them into my original binder. The first self-contained guidebook that I got was falling apart in two months so that's why I originally ripped it apart and put it in the old binder. I'd prefer if they'd go back to that.

Wouldn't it be nice if they made that binder guidebook (If that's what they do) the size of a day planner! It would be so convienent to take on the trip and you could use it as a planner as well.

Thanks Doc. You're the best for sharing the info!

I just wanted to add my thanks as well, Doc. This site has provide me with invaluable information as we have gone through the years with DVC. Your experitise and professionalism as you monitor these boards is very much appreciated.

Looking forward to the updated guidebook!
I'm new to this. So I've bearly scratched the surface of the ole one.
Cool a new one already.
yipee.

July:rolleyes:

Thanks Doc! You do a great job spreading the info . It's members like you that make being a member so much better.
Thank You Again-tiggerguy2000 ºoº

Another big Thank You Doc.

Looking forward to the new guidebook and I'll add another vote to the loose leaf format. The Guidebook I received with my purchase this past July was nice and pretty, but not real functional. Did not care for the heavier paper stock that separated sections. I also found that alot of the text seemed to have been repeated several times throughout the book.

Either way they go ( book or loose leaf notebook), I definitely hope to see better editing this time. It would cut down on the cost and improve the comfort (weight).

So glad we made the plunge this year. I love planning and thinking of trips. The where, when, who options are just about limitless. Though with 75,000 folks that 7 month option has me a bit concerned. Will have to see how things play out and what adjustments DVC will come up with to keep us smilin.

Peace,
G4L

I don't expect a return to the looseleaf format. I think the bound version is less costly to produce and then simple updates can handle the minor changes each year for those who've already received the bound copy.

While I still have our original looseleaf version, I've found the bound copy better organized and easier to use. It's certainly less bulky than the looseleaf.

I'm confident that whatever we end up with serve as a functional reference tool for all things DVC.

We should know what to expect soon.

I want to add my own "thank you, Doc" for such great information on DVC. I always look forward to your comments and opinions. Keep up the good work. It is definitely appreciated.

I would also like to chime in with a THANK YOU for Doc!
I am truly glad to hear that DVC pays attention to it's members. I am also anxious to hear any future good news!

In our case, DW and I jointly own four master contracts and 7 add-ons. We are jointly counted as one member of the 75,000+ total.

I am not 100% confident that they are able to determine this. We receive multiple mailings, member cards, etc. Different resorts, different use years, purchases via resale and directly from Disney. I noticed that there are minor differences in our names (initials, etc.) and even address on contracts and mailings. If you know, how does DVC maintain records such that they feel confident that the 75,000 figure represents, essentially, families and are not double (or triple, or quadruple...) counting those of us who have more than one contract, and "aliases" on those.

I could imagine indexing via phone numbers or social security numbers would give a more exact figure than names or household address, but you have to wonder how imprecise that number is.

I'd love to see them produce the guide on CD-rom. It wouldn't be difficult to create an interface for it, or even just use PDF files. They could post updates on the member site that could be downloaded as patches, or even offer the entire thing online for downloading.

I realize not all members have a computer, but it could be something you request. They could put a prompt on the member site and a notice in Vacation Magic when they are starting to produce the new guide. You could fill out a simple form and provide your name and member number, then select whether you prefer the printed guide or the CD this year. (Or do so over the phone.) They would just always send it that way to you unless you got online or called and requested the other version.

It could easily save them enough to pay for the CD production. Once the initial programming is done (VERY basic, especially if it's all PDFs), CDs are very cheap to reproduce... much cheaper than a four-color bound book! The CD would also be much easier and lighter to ship.

DVC are you reading??

and by the way...I'm looking for a dentist...love to have one who could talk DVC to me!!;)

Thanks again...for all the work you do!
