Are there any DVC members out there from Northern Ireland? I'm seriously considering joining the club, but want to know of other peoples experiences.
Indeed I am keen to hear from anyone in the UK or Republic of Ireland, particularly about the pro's and con's of the club.

Welcome to the DIS

Have a look at the list of Disers for NI members and check on the DVC FAQ :)

We love our DVC - any specific questions ask away we would love to help you :thumbsup2

We have only recently become DVC Members. Looking forward to going 'Home' for the first time next March. Everything has been really easy and plain sailing so far and I would recommend it to anyone.

Hello and welcome

I'm very biased as I've loved my 10-year membership so I'll start with the Cons ;)

  • Annual Dues - the amount varies according to which resort you own and is adjusted annually (usually up, but one year they did go down!). I own at 3 resorts and in January I paid £864.12 (or $1531.65) on 330 points.

Flights - depending on when you visit and how you choose to travel, you can sometimes get a cheap package for less than you will pay for air fares at peak times. Maybe this isn't the same in the Irish Republic?

The Friday/Saturday points are very high ::yes:: Study the points charts if you've not already done so.

If you are planning to buy the current resort of SSR, availability at the smaller resorts at peak times may be difficult to get at the 7 month booking window. I personally believe in the mantra of 'Buy where you want to stay' - either by going on Disney's waitlist or resale - but others disagree.

The Pros are numerous but here's a few:

  • Quality accommodation in great - and varied - locations; you can be in the thick of the action or in more laid-back surroundings.

Flexibility - you can book just 1 night if you choose, different sized units from studios to Grand Villas and, thanks to banking and borrowing, you don't have to go each year.

DVC is an expensive purchase and I recommend doing lots of homework to see if it's right for you. Hope this helps and if you can think of any specific points as Kaylee said, just ask away.

Minniespal: Hope you have a magical first visit 'Home' :wizard:

We are down South and bought into DVC last year on the resale market. We did this for two reasons. One is that Disney can't sell directly into Ireland (although you will be OK in the North) We would have had to have waited until we were in Florida to buy directly from them. Secondly we wanted to buy at OKW and could get more points for our money there.

We have had two trips "home" and have another one booked for Christmas. it's the best decision we made and, like most DVC'ers, we wished we'd bought in sooner

We were lucky enough to get in very early back in 1992. It was a lot cheaper back then at only $51 a point. We do love it but have to wonder if we would buy if we were looking at it now with the price so much higher.
