dvc members cruising?

We are going on our first Disney cruise via dvc points and are wondering if anyone has ever gotten a category upgrade? In the past when we have cruised on other cruise lines have, on occasion been given an upgrade at check in. Just wondering if this is possible and if anyone has ever experienced a random upgrade when booking through DVC?

Upgrades are rare on DCL, but they have happened to both cash and DVC points paying passengers.

Most likely, it would have happened before arrival at the Port, however. You can check there if you desire paying for an upgrade. If any are available, they will calculate for you the price, based on the category you booked, and what you are seeking to upgrade to.

Make sure you always book the category you will be happy with, and if an upgrade happens it is magical, but not something you can't live without..

There really does not seem to be any rhyme or reason to how DCL assigns "pixie dust" upgrades - cash vs. points, past guest vs. new guest, etc. It is not something that I would expect either way. That being said, we cruised on points in November and actually did receive a pixie dust upgrade. We were so surprised! We were booked in a cat 8 and received and upgrade to a cat 6. Member Services called about a month before sail date to let us know the good news. It was a nice treat!
