For someone new to DVC i must say that there are a lot of resales. I was surprised to even see AKV DVC resales. What does this mean. ARE they unhappy or were they overzealous in making a large purchase so quickly.

I know after my tour it took me five months to take the plunge. WELL thought out:goodvibes

Well I know for me it was that We love DVC and really dont want to sell but at this time this is a luxury item for us and we are building new house and it is the most important thing to us.
We have owned for going on 6 years and have Loved every minute of it and we are very sad to have to sell right now but we know that we will be able to buy back in and next time we will do a resell and do a smaller contract.

We bought in thinking that we would be able to take family with us and let then enjoy Disney to but it always seems that noone has he time or money so we have stopped asking them.
So whenever we buy back in we will do maybe 100 points and it could be less and that will be for just me and DH.

Also it just looks like alot of resales but you have to think of how many thousands of member that there really are and it is a very very small percentage in reality.

I think sometimes peoples vacation habits just change. We used to camp, now I prefer timeshares. And now that the kids are older, we travel off season more so we wouldn't need as many points. You get the picture.;)

Could be most anything. Loss of a job or income, death in the family, divorce, change in vacation habits, bankruptcy, etc. There are a lot of reasons someone may need to sell.

With over 100 thousand families involved with DVC, I am not sure that the number of resales that you are seeing is actually that large.

In nearly eleven years, we had five contracts, now have three with one currently on the market. We just decided we didn't want to send Disney $2500 a year in dues alone. Never mind $1500 in PAPs and then there is the gas to get down there.

Do you feel it has been worth it for you?

Maybe they are selling... to buy again through Chicago to get 2 AP's! :rotfl2:
or
buy through DL to get to be in founding club with opportunity to buy GCV! :rotfl2::rotfl2: :rotfl2:

since i am fairly new to the situation i think i have to wait awhile before i can really give a true answer to that.

but what is worth it? you may evaluate worth it completely different than i do.

but for right now and with two trips scheduled in the next six months i am totally happy...why? because before jumping the gun i made sure that Disney was the right situation for me. i went on the tour in August 07 and i didnt buy in until January 2008.

And truly the only reason i bought in was because of the STEVE HARVEY promotion somehting i dont hear anyone around here talking about or referring to.

becasue i didnt get developer points. i bought in at 160 points and received 160 banked points, the $8 credit, and Gift Card.

So for me buying in when i did was right becasue when I added the incentives in it made the price right and even more attrtactive.

So for now I am happy. I just wanted to know why people wanted out and if there was something I needed to know before it was to late.

SMILE

We've had a lot of fun over the last ten years. Just within the last couple of months we looked at what we were paying out in dues and decided to sell off some of the contracts and only go once a year. We still have plenty of points, enough for a very nice stay in the early summer/late spring (once our son heads off to college, me and dad can go anytime we want). But we did decide that we really missed going to the beach in the summer and VB and HHI just weren't what we wanted.

As for the cost of new points from Disney, it's just too high for me. We bought in originally at about $50 a point. $104 is just too much to me. And with the cost of dues, it's getting waaaay out there.

I think that if faced with a difficult financial situation, I would rent out my points and hang on as long as possible.... I love my DVC

I think that is a good way to think of it but how easy is it to rent points
