DVC Member Perks

We are looking into buying DVC next month and I was wondering what kind of offerings they have for DVC members... We are not joining because of all the offerings I enjoy going to DW for all the fun and exciting things I can see and do.

Reduced price on Annual Passes.
Free tote bag when you purchase (often referred to as "my $16,000 tote bag")
Some discounts on dining - some restaurants, some times
Some discounts on other things - I got a discount at Basin w/my DVC card
Some discounts on other Disney things at times (e.g., Disney on Ice or La Nouba,).
Pool hopping, with some limitations.

Not sure what you mean by "can earn" though. You can earn bonuses if you refer others to DVC and they buy in.

Can't think of much more. When you check-in, they will give you a little Portable Perks book showing the available discounts at that time.

There's not that much that is unique to DVC vs. being perks that AP holders also get or on-site visitors also get.

The best perk at the moment is $100 off APs. Other than that, it's just a few token discounts at some restaurants and shops. There are usually some discounts off the behind the scenes tours, and I believe some discounts on golf.

DVC members can use pools at any Disney-owned resorts except BLT, AKV and BCV. Some busier times of year are blacked out for pool hopping.

That's pretty much it. I'm also a bit confused by "cool/fun things members can earn".....DVC doesn't work like a frequent flyer program, there's nothing to earn. All members are entitled to the current perks.

Keep in mind that any and all of these discounts/perks are given at the whim of the restaurant/store/entity giving the discount, and can go away at any time.

AP discount is the best perk currently. I don't keep up completely with all the perks but when ever I purchase anything at WDW I always ask if there is a DVC or AP discount just in case.

Don't buy for the perks as they could change or go away tomorrow.

I haven't really noticed anything for perks other than a few cents off here and there on some purchases. We only go every other year so don't get an anual pass which would be a decent perk but we bought for the upgrade in accomadations and more enjoyable pace of our stays, no more commando style visits, plus with 4 kids and sofar 2 grandchildren our family will get good use of our points.

Don't forget free access to the internet in room, and if you bring your own router you can make it wireless!!!

The best perk at the moment is $100 off APs.

The $100 off APs is only available at Disney World. The Disneyland discount is only $20.

The two that are currently being offered that save me the most are the free internet for points stays and the $100 AP discount.

If these go away, I won't mind the loss of internet (as I don't have to get on the computer while I am away), but the AP discount would be sad.

But, as already mentioned, don't ever buy for perks. When I bought in 2009, we still got free valet. We went on our first DVC stay in August and I used it at VWL and LOVED it!! I was so excited about this perk.

While, not two months later, that perk disappeared. Not that I bought for that (didn't even know about it when I bought), but a bit of a let down when it was gone.
