We just booked today a quick getaway next month on a 4 night cruise; however we were in our 4 month window and couldn't use points. (No biggie as I'm sure we will use the points on another trip). My question for those DVC'ers who have cruised before without using points...do you still get the DVC recognition? I remember on our first cruise we had a welcome home magnet on our door and had some other goodies waiting for us as well. I'm thinking that since we paid cash we may not?

Yes. We've also received phone calls from DVC prior to the cruise letting us know when the Member Celebration is.

I have always gotten a room magnet (last time in July 2013) and an invitation to the Members meeting, even though we book for cash. However, there are others here who have not gotten those things. You can always go to the DVC desk to alert them, and from that point on, you should get whatever the members get. There's a Mickey Pirate Pin that you pick up one day from the DVC desk, that's probably the "best" thing in my opinion!

Enjoy your cruise, it sounds like a great time to be out of NJ! We'll going to the Caribbean, RCCL on the 26!

Yes, you get all the DVC "perks". We have been on two Disney cruises and have only paid cash. To us it is a much better deal to rent our points and use the cash to book our cruise. The last two cruises cost me half the points over using points.

Thank you all for the responses! So I don't need to contact DVC prior to the cruise? I asked DCL today when I booked if it showed we were DVC and she couldn't tell:confused3

They didn't have any details about us so we didn't get any of the DVC goodies. Anything we did get we had to purposely go and ask for :-(

No need to contact DVC at all. They run the ships manifest against the DVC membership to see if any members are sailing. They do miss some at times and if they do, just let the CMs at the DVC info desk know.

Are resale DVC members (who obviously pay cash for a cruise) "recognized" with any of these small on board member perks? I would expect not, but just curious.

My guess is yes. You would be "allowed" to go to the "welcome aboard" first meeting, you could even win the on board credit :goodvibes.the meeting is opened to everyone on board. They are trying to sell points, you could play the games. I doubt that the people who are there selling have access to how you bought points. I would probably have my membership card to show to get the pin!

We are resale buyers. We did get the magnet, but were not told about the meeting. We did get the items when we stopped by the desk and asked.

Does it make a difference if you book through Disney or through a TA? Should I be letting our TA know to add we are DVC members somewhere?
