DVC Member Holiday Party???

I have seen some info about this on here and am wondering what it is?? We are newer members and will actually be at WDW the first week of Dec. and I am wondering if this is something any member can attend and what goes on there.
I am not one to miss a good party so I am wondering if I should add it to my list of things to do.

The Merry Mixers are usually held on Friday afternoons...used to be a different day but they changed it last year. You have to be a DVC member to get in. There are characters, goodies, special pins for sale. Each member has gotten a special holiday ornament as they leave the party.
It is held over in that big empty area to the left as you approach the International Gateway entrance. It is covered and roped off....you need to show your card to get in. It has been from 3-5 in recent years.

This will be my first time I am traveling with just my best friend and not DH. He and I are members but my friend is not, so I can only get in, not her, even though she is with me?

Merry Member Mixer
Celebrate the holiday season by mixing and mingling with all your Disney Vacation Club neighbors. This complimentary Member event will be held at the International Gateway entrance to Epcot® every Friday in December from 3 to 5 p.m. Remember to bring your Member I.D. — it's required for admission.

The whole family is invited for an afternoon of festive fun, such as Disney character photo opportunities, an activity area just for kids and a merry special giveaway. We'll also be decking the halls and enjoying light refreshments.
