DVC member cruise

I believe you could book last year in November, so I'm hoping that the timeframe for the 2011 cruise will be about the same (we, too, are hoping to be on the 2011 member cruise). I'm sure we'll have a lot of advance notice either way. :thumbsup2

Booking day for the last several Member Cruises has been during the first week in November. The Point/Cash rates and booking date should be announced shortly after the 2010 Member Cruise.

I wish they would announce the cost sooner. I'd like to know if it will be a possibility for me.:confused3

Start saving your pennies anyway! Then when they announce the cost, if it turns out to not be a possibility for you, think of the bonus money you'll have!!

We've decided that we're going to try to book next year's Member Cruise. I really enjoyed the article about the ship in the Disney Files. I'm trying to convince DH to take lesser accomodations for spring break, that is, an ocean view rather than a balcony to help save for the MC. I'm not sure he agrees, he'd rather have the balcony and I would rather have the MC. We have to work this one out.

We have always booked verandahs for our cruises and have found out that we only spend about an hour or two on them during the entirety of our cruise. So, for our September back-to-back on the Wonder, we booked inside staterooms to see if the verandah is worth the extra money. It will be an interesting test case and I'm hopeful that we aren't miserable (since we're essentially stuck once we are aboard). :rotfl: We'll see...

I'm sure you won't be miserable! It makes sense to try and decide for the future. We spent Memorial weekend on a wonderful RCCL 3 night cruise and we were in an inside cabin. Personally, I wouldn't want to be without a view for more than 3-4 nights. It was very dark in the cabin in the mornings. Our cruise before this one was in the Baltics last September and we had an outside cabin. Both DH and I felt that it was definitely nicer to wake up and pull the curtains back and see something than it was to just be in the dark.! DH likes balconies, I'm OK with oceanview as long as I can find an area on an open deck that has comfortable seats so I can enjoy the breeze. We are empty nesters and if it's just the 2 of us, we do spend more time on the balcony, especialy in the evening, night if there's a moon. We've had balconies on 2 cruises, just outside on 15 or so, and inside on 5. We like cruising a lot!

PS. DH is "winning" for our spring break cruise. We're just about ready to book a balcony for a Princess Eastern Caribbean. I'll take what I can for the Member Cruise in '11, but for that one, I hope inside is available, I want to experience the virtual porthole.

Although we haven't cruised with Disney we have booked inside, obstructed, outside, balcony (verandah), mini suite and a suite over the years. And I would take any of them. If the inside cabin gives you the ability to do a B2B then it's well worth it. Also if you like to sleep-in in the morning, an inside is perfect because the room is so dark. We have friends that only book inside cabins for this very reason. And with all of the beautiful public rooms, pool areas, the spa and fitness center you'll have plenty of views.

Do you think that maybe the MC next year will be out of LA if it's usually held on the Wonder. That would work awesome for me since it takes me all day just to get out to Florida.

DVC has already announced the dates for the 2011 Member Cruise. It will sail September 18-22, 2011 on the Disney Dream.

That cruise would be ending right before my b-day, so I could always celebrate my b-day on the cruise. Now, is this cruise just for DVC members and their families or do they open up this cruise to the general public?

Sorry so many questions but I'm really interested in this cruise. Where can I find information on this cruise? Where does it go? I don't see it listed on the DCL website so I'm sure it's gotta be listed elsewhere.

It won't be listed on the DCL website because it is a charter cruise. This cruise is just for DVC members and their families/friends. For the past two years (2009 & 2010), DVC members call in in November to reserve rooms (limit three). The cruise does a double dip at Castaway Cay. The itinerary has been:
Sunday: embark
Monday: Castaway Cay
Tuesday: Day at Sea
Wednesday: Castaway Cay
Thursday: Disembark

The Member Cruise is for members, their families and guests of members. Only Member can call to book rooms, but in prior years they could book up to 3 staterooms. Booking is handled by MS on a date that is yet to be announced.

The Member Cruise will be a 4 night cruise that will make two stops at Castaway Cay with a sea day in between. Additional details should be posted on the Member website probably in late September after the 2010 Member Cruise.

We are looking for 11 as our first member cruise. As I understand tickets will go on sale in November. So I guess that means I cannot book it while I am onboard a cruise this coming September (not member cruise..sniffle) Do they send emails out or will it show up on the member site?

I think your best bet is just to keep abreast of the news here. DVC e-mails are hit and miss, and at least once I've gotten word of the Member Cruise by a post card that came after the call in date. It should show up on the member site, with the points/money charts that are needed to book.
