DVC member can,t stay at grand californian

DVC has over booked the grand californian villas in january supposed value season. the hotel has lots of availibility but won,t let DVC members in

What can i do HELP my family has stayed there twice a year for years now!!!

You are 1 month out. You will most likely have to pay cash as you have in the past. It is not a matter of being overbooked the resort and villas are separate and the resort s no longer available on points.

Did you try DLH or PP on points?

Just like any DVC resort, there are 2 pools of rooms - DVC rooms and cash bookable rooms.

I have NO idea how many of the GCV rooms are declared into DVC inventory at this time, since it's a newer resort -- but they can only book as many DVC rooms as DVC points are declared (I'm not up on all the technical details of the declaration of units into inventory, so I'm paraphrasing to an extent).

But if all the DVC-allocated rooms are booked, they're booked. But cash rooms can still be available.

Ill also assume you're trying to book on points a month out. IF so, expecting availability is unreasonable given that a DVC wing has opened there and the hotel itself is not available on points. I'm further assuming that you were booking the hotel previously on points. If these are all correct assumptions, I'd consider booking for cash and renting out some DVC points to cover the cost. Or you could do one of the other hotels there is you're set on points. Another option is to wait list the DVC portion there but if you book something else non DVC, you won't be able to use the same points if the WL comes through.

I seem to recall there are only 50 or so villa units at GCV as well - so chances of getting one less than 11 months out at any time of the year for the first year or so are probably pretty slim. Chances at anything less than exactly 7 months are probably non-existent. It's hard enough competing with 100,000 other people for rooms at a resort with over 400 villas!

For future visits: if it is important to you to stay at GCV, you could buy GCV points....

This year, maybe cash (do you qualify for an AP rate?) or points at DLH or PP...

I hope somone has i idea to help us. I have been a dvc member for 3 years. we live in northen CA and go to disneyland at least twice a year. We have always stayed at the grand californian and nothing else could compare. The problem is now they built the vacation club villas they don"t have enough rooms we want to go in january supposedly the slow time of year and there booked.
theys plenty of rooms avaliable at the grand but not for dvc members. DVC will only let you stay at the disneyland hotel or the paradice pier which dont compair. there has to be away around this????

Once a DVC resort is added to a Disney hotel, the Disney Collection option of using DVC points for a hotel stay is discontinued. This has most recently occured with
- Walt Disney World Resort Contemporary Resort with the opening of the DVC Bay Lake Tower
- Disneyland Grand Californian Hotel with the opening of the DVC Grand Californian Villas (GCV)

As folks have stated in the previous posts, the number of rooms at the GCV is very limited and will most likely require a home resort booking priority.

For now, you might want to follow Dean's advice - rent your DVC points & use the proceeds for a cash hotel stay at Disneyland's Grand California Hotel.

I agree with others that the OP seems not to understand that once DVC associates with a resort, the regular hotel can't be booked with points. I think OP is trying to book at the hotel.

I just booked April 21-28 in GCV a couple days ago and luckily there was availability. I was actually very surprised considering the small number of villas they have.

I booked for five nights during springbreak with no problem. Most of what I have read on the boards seems to indicate a surprising amount of availability at GVC so far. I would be happy if that continued to be the norm but I doubt that it will. It would sure be nice to be able to use my SSR points at 7 months. That is why I bit the bullet and bought GVC. IMHO it is the only way to do DLR.

I booked one night in a studio last month only 24 hours in advance. And ended up with a Theme Park view as well.

Both the Grand Californian and Contemporary hotel rooms were available on points via a Disney Collection exchange for stays up until Dec. 31st, 2009. Both have been removed from the Disney Collection since they now have their own DVC component.
