DVC member button in the parks

We found that the birthday and anniversary buttons always gave us the "perk" of being allowed to the fast pass line at most rides. I doubt if a DVC owner button will do that! I guess we should try to look at this positively and even though we would be free advertising for DVC, maybe we can convert anyone who asks us about DVC into being a referral for us so we can get more free stuff!

Honestly, I was hoping the button was really a pin with a cute little dangly part with the year (heck, it could be 5 parts and they grab the base and the 4 year numbers and you put it together). That I would wear! Understated, cute, and something people would really want to trade! ;) But the buttons are huge... so not so excited. I will get one, but probably won't wear it.

That would be awesome.

When you're dealing with a Mouse, it's bound to be cheesy!! Seriously, I have to agree with puntagordabob who suggested that the buttons would be appreciated more if they had specific resorts on them. People might be more inclined to display their buttons to show which resorts they have stayed at just as many people on these boards do.

Waaaaaaaaah, I've spent 13 recent birthdays (the past 3 with the b'day button) and joined many family/friends for their "Free B'day" in 2009 with each of us wearing the appropriate buttons ... and we were never invited to the Fastpass Line!

It is time to try someplace new for my B'day!

Here is a picture of the button...sorry it's not too clear

I am all about free buttons. The strap on my backpack slips, and if I pin something through the strap it helps it stay adjusted properly. ;)

This makes no sense.

What are we celebrating?? finding the secret?? Its still tacky.

I actually like the button though.

We are celebrating that fact that we spent AT LEAST 20K at Disney.. Instead of date of membership it should say how many points you own...Still very cheesy.

For those at regular resorts they should have instead of 1st visit they should have the number of visits you actually have.. Like "10th visit in 8 years" :rotfl:

Although cute, I think it's a sign to the CMs to "Run away! Run away!"

Next they'll have the "AP holder since ___" buttons
or even better... the
"I'm a Psycho Stroller Mom" button - (Afer being rammed one too many times, that one I can understand) :upsidedow

I don't know if I'd wear it the whole trip, but it's nice to know at least one souvenir from our next trip will be free! :thumbsup2

We are new, so I think having since 2009 on the button is silly. The phrase suggests a history, and we have yet to establish one. I don't think the idea of a button is tacky, but the year written in marker...well...:rolleyes1

I agree with others; it should be a pin not a button that is so disposable looking.

Since we are new and I've yet to be showered with my member "gifts," I am worried will this replace the "free" tote and/or hat. I can always use another tote and my husband another hat... I was going to go to a Welcome Home Wed. just to pick one up.:confused3

I think I'll just stick with the swell hat Deevy gave me at Welcome Home Wednesday last fall. :thumbsup2

I saw this too and we arrive next Saturday. I figured maybe I'll take those referral cards with me that DVC is always sending. Heck, if I'm going to advertise DVC, I should try to get paid for it!

That's not as "in your face" DVC as I was expecting, but it would have been nice to see something a bit more classy. We bought in last year and, while I'm doing the happy dance every day that we're members, it seems a little bit like a cheap stunt on Disney's part. DVC is already all over the parks and the resorts - - is it really necessary to also have members sporting DVC celebration buttons? :sad2: Blech.

One word...TACKY! But then, what can you expect from a company who has a character like Deevy See as a spokesperson?

I don't think they're tacky, as far as the button itself. I doubt I'd wear it in the parks, but I wouldn't mind having the button. But then again, I think the same about the Birthday buttons...basically they say "It's my Birthday, gimme somethin' free." They just aren't for me personally.

Looking at it strictly from marketing standpoint...it is probably good marketing tool for DVC, if prospective customers see how many members there are in the parks...but, again, I likely wouldn't wear them. I certainly hold no ill will towards those that will wear the button. There are all kind of DVC members, including those that will wear the button, and enjoy them, and those that won't.

While I agree the concept is good marketing, I think if you want people to wear it, it should be a pin or at least something a bit classier than a button.

Totally agree.

It's exactly what I thought it would be. Buttons are dirt cheap and I'm amazed they didn't think of this sooner.

I'm not a button guy so you won't catch me wearing it. My wife may want one though, and I have no problems with people who enjoy them. :goodvibes

If anything I'm a little surprised that so many people were excited about them to begin with. Sounds like an obvious marketing gimmick to me and I expected more people to bristle at the idea.

Yes, but CMs are accustomed to looking for celebration type buttons to make a comment, not the trading type pins.
