DVC member availability/quota

I am considering renting some points from a DVC member.

When I search for availability on the disney website, I see certain room types sold out for certain dates. For example AKV-Kidani-1BD-Savanna View is not available on 27 Sep.

My question is: Will a DVC member have a diffferent pool of rooms to choose from? i.e. even though a room type is sold out for cash buyers, could it still be potentially available for DVC members?

Yes, 2 different pools of room.

dvc generally gets more of the pie. but with AKV and BLT they are still selling so they keep some for rentals.

You'll need to find a member to rent from and ask them to search the inventory for you. Just a mention, you cannot get free dining with a DVC points stay. That is only available with a package purchased directly from Disney.

Also be ready for your first and second choices of resorts not to be available. Most DVC members book by 7 months and after that availability is harder to find at all but the largest resorts. Just because something is available for cash does not mean you can get it for points.

We rented pts for a trip the last week of Sept 09 at AKV. We stayed in a 1BR value at Jambo (pool view). We requested the reservation to rent in mid July. Value rooms are supposed to be harder to get at popular times, but there was one available less than 3 months out. I think September is a less busy time so you may find of variety of options available.

We paid cash for the DDP and still came out saving substantially over what even a discounted room at AKV would have been at a cash rate.

thanks for the replies. We are actually going to AKV september end as well. 1BR - savanna view at kidani was not available for one of the days (cash purchase with 40% off).

So ended up renting points from a DVC member and the room was indeed available (although reportedly not many rooms left for that view).
