DVC Member 25% discount

Does anybody know if the Member Discount is ever offered for a OKW 2 BR Lock-off unit? I just called and was able to get the discount for a dedicated 2BR for a Fri and Sat night in July but we have to be in a lock-off since our friends won't be joining us until mid-week. MS told me that they do not have the discount available for a 2BR lock-off. I asked her if that was because it just wasn't available at the time or do they just not offer the discount on a 2BR lock-off. She was not able to answer. Does anybody know the answer to this? This has really thrown a wrinkle into my plans. I'd appreciate any help.

Thanks!

Mike can I ask you what the rate was for next July. I was stupidly working everything out (point -v- cash) at the VB rate but think SSR and okw might be higher.

At OKW for a 2BR it is $500/nt + tax. The member discount is $375 + tax.

There have been several recent threads asking about the 25% discount for DVC members for cash nights at DVC resorts.

Today, I was able to get the discount for a Sat night at HH for next July - right at the 11 month priority. We have gotten the discount many times in the past, but many times have not been able to even get a cash night (with or without the discount) until within about 6 months. A few times, we've made the cash reservation (at rack rate) and then were pleasantly surprised a few months later to get a revised confirmation letter indicating that the discount had been applied - even without further phone calls.

This time, MS knew already from past history that the villa would not likely be needed for point reservations and applied the discount to the cash rate immediately.

It never hurts to ask! :)

just tried to book VB for next July and they said to early :( they are still working on June ! Oh well just need to keep trying

I think they like to save the lockoffs for studio and 1 bedroom reservations (there are no dedicated studios or 1 bedroom at OKW). They usually book the 2 bedroom dedicateds first and let the lockoffs go separate.

I'm not following you on why you have to have a lockoff because your friends are not joining you until mid-week. Are you going to rent out part until then?

Hi Debbie,
My plan was to rent a 1BR for just my family Sun-Wed and then when my friends arrived on Thursday to open up the studio to make it a 2 BR. I already made these reservations and MS said that they couldn't guarantee that we could stay in the same room and accomplish this but there was a good chance. Then we were going to book Friday and Saturday on cash using the Member Discount - until I got thrown this curveball. So based on my requests we were put in a 2BR lockoff but now it appears I will not be able to use the discount to stay in that room for Friday and Saturday.

I was really suprised too when I called a few weeks ago for a cash reservation at BCV for June 30 and July 1. Members discount was given without me asking - $258 plus tax. Then I called a week later and got a cash reservation with members discount for $228 plus tax the weekend after the 4th of July. But what I found interesting(beside the fact I got members discount so early) was the first reservation has a special note on my reservation: Rate Not Guaranteed After December 31, 2005. The second cash reservation does not say that. I wonder why the difference?

OK I get it. I thought you meant the Friday and Saturday before your points reservation, that's why I couldn't figure it out. I would keep trying, a cash discount room might open up closer to the date.

That whole cash room thing can be funny and fickle, LOL. Last year, I needed a 2BR for a Sat night at BCV. I couldn't get it at the DVC discount on cash. I COULD, however, get a studio and 1BR seperately forteh discount. I took those (since together they were still less than a 2BR at rack rate) and triedto get teh cash 2 br rate all the way up to the day of arrival -- no dice. Had we wanted any other resort, we could have had the 2br rate -- BWV, VWL, etc. (BUt nooooooo - we had to be difficult! We wanted BCV, all so the kids could swim in SAB... ) Anyway you slice it, though, it was STILL cheaper than 2 rooms in the BC, or a rack rate 2 br, and it gave us a 75 pt savings we later applied to a few more week nts later in the trip. I am toying with trying for a few wkend cash rates on a dedicated 2br at OKW next year. Anybody have any experience getting the cash rate for a wkend on a 2BR in AUgust at OKW?

If the price is right, what the hey... save my pts for another day! :goodvibes

Mike - back in 1997 we booked 14 nights. The first (Thursday) was on points, the next 2 (Fri and Sat) were on $, the next 5 on points, the next 2 on $ and the last 4 on points (we didnt have enought points to do the whole stay that way). The whole time we were in a 2 bed lock off and we didnt move rooms. We were given the member discount on the cash reservations (which were made at the 11 month window). The only annoying thing was we had to go to front desk to switch the reservations across each time (5 times) it changed from one form of payment to another!!

Yes - see my full answer to Mike - we did it for 2 weekends (but it was back in 1997)

Thanks Susieh - I will keep calling to see if I can get it. I'm glad to hear that it is possible. The CM that I spoke with gave me the impression that they weren't offered on lock-offs by the way she responded to me.

gopherit - The discount was already available for next July for an OKW 2BR so I think you'll be able to get it for August. Call at the 11 month window. Good luck.

they wouldn't even let me book VB :( should I try again

Each resort has different rules.

We did it at OKW in 1997 and I think we paid for one night in 2001 also at OKW.

We tried to do it at VB in 2001 but they have fewer lockoffs there and only allow them to be rented on points (which is why I think we paid for 1 night at OKW as it was a 3 week trip and we needed the 2BR lock off all the way thru).

Our home resort is SSR. Next September we were hoping for 3 nights at a Beach Cottage Vero then 11 nights at BCV (2 bed lock off) but I think I would be very lucky to get that! We are short of a good few points due to borrowing this year (and the steep cost of the Beach Cottage) but if I could get cash at either resort that would be great.

I am assuming that the usual booking windows apply even if you want to book a cash ressie? (ie you cannot book cash at a non home resort before 7 months)

Is Sept a busy time for Vero?

Do 2 bed lock offs at BCV and Beach Cottages at Vero ever get sold as cash with member discounts?

Thanks so much for any help.

Mandy ::MinnieMo (who should be thinking about this upcoming trip, not next year!!!)

That depends - how do you feel about hurricanes?

Sept is in the midst of hurricane season -- which would make it lower pts. And sometimes lower pts makes it very attractive to the owners (like, January at OKW is low pts, and thus very hard for non-owners to get a GV.) I'm not sure if the recent years' rash of storms would be a deterrent and make it easier to get VB or not... Maybe you could call now to see what's available this coming month and get a rough idea for next year. OF course, with the recent Gulf Coast disaster, I would imagine all travel is pretty crazy right now and data may be skewed for some time to come... :(
