Well, as you may already know, I am engaged to marry fellow DVC'er Crissup!

We both have our own DVC Guides and we both have our own DVC points. I am curious if anyone out there has met and married a fellow DVC owner?

I know one can place another's name on their membership to allow booking of points, etc. but I am curious about the process of actually going in to change the deed and title after a marriage. Assuming one needs a Florida attorney, is the cost very high to do this?

Just curious if anyone has any experience with this. :)

I don't really know the answer to your question, but wanted to say:

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!

Hubby and I got married at BCV (before the wedding chapel) in 1995, and used FIL's DVC membership for accomodations for both families,

and best Friend (Maid of Honor) married into family with AA executive, so free tickets too....

So my very "expensive" wedding was really cheap. Hubby and I paid for it ourself, because it was manageable after everyone's kind generosity (including Disney).

Disney bumped us to the Admiral's Suite at BCV - it was really gorgeous!

I think there is a fee, like $75, to add on a person's name to a title, because I have all the contracts in my name (Hubby didn't want to be bothered), and periodically I ask him if he wants to be added on....

MS should be able to help you.

I don't know the answer to you question, but I think it is so cool that you are getting married! How did you meet? I need details now! LOL Congratulations to you both!!

Congratulations!!!!!!!

I own DVC and just recently got married. He gave me the down payment for DVC, but since we weren't married at the time he insisted that it be entirely in my name. Since we got married we decided to keep it that way. He's on my account, so he can make ressies and do everything I can, but we don't see why he needs to be on the deed and while I know we will be married forever and a day, I like it this way.....just in case......

I've read one too many horror threads on this board about people fighting for custody over DVC-- I told him he can keep the kids if we have any, I'm keeping my DVC!;)

p.s. Do I see a DVC honeymoon in your future?:p

I'm sure that MS can answer your questions.

Be sure to keep us informed of all the juicy details!

First, this is WONDERFUL!!!! Best wishes.

Our situation is a bit different. I convinced Dee to join at OKW, but we share the same guide. We do have separate contracts and I am allowed to do anything on his contract. IE: make reservations, bank points, borrow points, etc.
The person who would best be able to answer the add on to the deed question is your guide. If that person cannot answer it, they will direct you to the person you need to speak with.

Annie, I sure do hope you stay married forever and a day!!!
When my former husband and I divorced, we had it stipulated in the decree that we split the cost and the points right down the middle. So far, after 9 years, there has not been a problem.

I really cant help you out with the information but
CONGRATULATIONS

You can add the other person as an associate member to each contract. My understanding of the FL Real Estate laws suggests it will be treated the same whether both names are on it or not. The main issue for most is that the spouse will not have a membership card and in your case, that's not an issue either.

But if you wnated to do this, you'd need to contact DVC. It would require a new deed for each plus recording. I don't know if DVC would waive the $100 transfer fee for each one. Potential costs could be anywhere from a couple of hundred $$ if DVC waives the tranfer fee to as much as about $1000 for a full service title company plus transfer fees for 2 deeds. While I'm not usually big on quit claim deeds, this might be a good place for one.

I can't see much downside in leaving them alone as is though. Good luck.

Congrats Carol! :) I would be interested to know if other DVC members have met and married each other also ;) :teeth:

I was married about 5 months ago but I think my situation is different than yours. My husband and I bought in when we weren't married so both our names were on the deed. I just changed my name and that was that ;)

So, did you actually sleep in the parking lot, before they broke ground to build the BCV there 6 years later? ;) ;)

Seriously, I knew what ya meant, but felt compelled to razz ya anyway. ;)

As for Carol and my situation, I've actually already sent the news to my guide, who was happy to hear it and shared that he, too, married another DVC member over ten years ago. This club is turning into a regular singles bar. ;) :)

He also explained that we would be better off to just add each other as authorized people to our contracts, due to the costs involved in adding our names to each of our six (yes, six) contracts.

As for the two different guides, he explained that Carol's four contracts would remain under her current guide and my two would remain under him, unless we specifically asked for consolidation.

Congrats to you!

I don't think there is a particular benefit to getting eachothers names added to the others deed in your situation.

If you are in a community property state, it makes no difference at all - you each own 50% of the others to begin with.

Additionally, though nobody expects it to happen, if things do not work out and somewhere down the road you part ways, you won't have to go to the trouble of redoing the deeds again to get eachothers names off.

Which Deeds?!? :p :p  Oh, you meant the property deeds. :teeth:

So which two resorts are getting hitched?

I think BWV and BCV would be kind of cute together.

Between us, we are hitching OKW, BWV, VB & BCV. Actually, Carol owns all four of those resorts and I have both of mine at the BWV. I guess I've always been a one-resort man. ;)

Of course, this also links the DIS to the Think Tank! LOL!! Carol, of course, moderates several boards here on the DIS and I own the Think Tank. LOL!!
But, of course, Carol has already been active there for a long time also. ;)
