I am far from a marketing major, but has anyone else noticed that almost anything that comes out is not black and white!!! It's always a pretty display, nice to look at. But the words are just plan confusing, ie: Gift of Magic, recent AP discouts, 10% at Olivias, no 10% discount at Olivias. Everything else is always top notch, but it seems the marketing, advertising, and computer web design departments just arn't on par with the Disney mystique!

The AP perk announcement on the web site seems pretty straightforward to me. It lists the cash discount rate for every class of guest (adult / child / Fla resident / non-Fla resident / AP / PAP / etc.)

I also do not see anything deceptive about the other list of member perks post on the site or in the "Pocket Perks" we receive at check in.

:confused3

Care to elaborate a little more?

I'm not saying anything is deceptive, just confusing. IE: the amount of posts with members stating how they are confused! Even the recent Give the Gift of Magic.

I currently don't have the time to type the entire add, but I was confused until I read it the third time!!

the person that had their pocket perks or website printout that stated they could get a 10% off at Olivias but couldn't! Was told it is over but it still stated it?

We spent last Sunday night at the VWL, and our pocket perks states a 10% off all Olivia's Cafe dining with an asterisk. The asterisk says restrictions may apply, refer to the perks page. Well the perks page says dine-in only, so based on what we just got, it appears that there is a discount at Olivias. Are you saying that someone didn't get it on dine-in dining?

Too bad, I hope it can be reconciled somehow.

I can't really agree that DVC's marketing is any more or less complicated than any other campaign.... sales ads are by nature designed to get you interested but then have conditions.

Personally, I've found Disney's marketing to be some of the easiest to comprehend - but perhaps I'm a little, shall we say, "overeducated" on the product....?

Considering the situation, I think there has been fairly little confusion regarding the Annual Pass benefit. Here's the sequence of events:

On Monday the monthly Member Clubhouse was released. It briefly stated that the next issue of Vacation Magic would have details on a "long-awaited member perk."

Within 24 hours people were on the phones to DVC confirming that the perk was discounted Annual Passes. What followed was about 48 hours of speculation and general confusion--almost entirely fueled by folks who just didn't want to wait for the formal announcement.

By Wednesday, DVC had posted details on the member website. IMO, the details were very clear-cut and explained the exact amount of the discounts, along with eligiblity requirements.

What has followed is basically discussion of how "fair" the discount's application might be and speculation on when / where / if variations might occur in its application.

Hard to fault DVC for what basically amounts to Internet gossip. Seems the plan all along was to reveal the discount in VM and there would likely be discussion at the annual meetings, too. But we just couldn't wait that long.

Even the recent Give the Gift of Magic. I currently don't have the time to type the entire add, but I was confused until I read it the third time!!

I read it. I understood it. I threw it away. At best, I'm 50/50 on this one. I understand what DVC was trying to do--they're trying to say "hey, how about buying more points" without actually saying "hey, buy some more points!!!"

Yes, it's a little bit of a stretch to try and convince members to add on so that they can send a family member to WDW.

If you take a look at the thread you linked, the issue was that the Pocket Perks still listed the discount, but there were signs posted at check-in and a notice given along with Pocket Perks indicating that it was discontinued through the end of the year.

As to whether this is "confusing", I don't think that's the case at all. Multiple notices were given indicating that PP was incorrect.

I don't consider it fair that such a perk would be eliminated during high capacity times, but that's a topic for another thread.
