When we were in WDW in February we visited SSR and actually singed a contract for 160 points. At the time Disney was offering $10 off per point and 9.75% financing. Does anyone know what the current new purchase incentive might be?

By the way we got cold feet and cancelled our contract :-(
but now reconsidering...

I guess I always viewed a vacation as discreationary and could be eleminated or could take a variety of different forms depending on our situation that year including financial or other. With DVC we figured we would have the financial comiitment no matter what. However we have been to WDW the last 4 out of 6 years.

I was also struggling with upgrading to 200 points both financially as well as functinality since I thought it would be nice to stay in a BR more then a studio. Even though ther eis only two of us, the added space and luxury of a full kitchen would be nice.

Has anyone else gone through this internal struggle?

Thanks in advance for all your help.....

Usually the incentives are only good for a limited time (when we toured we had to decide within 3 days or lose the incentives). Since you got cold feet, I'm not sure if they would be offered a second time around.

we are in the same boat! About 2 yrs ago we also made a purchase, got buyers remorse and cancelled. Well, in the past week we have once again we have decided this will work for us. I talked to my guide on Wed. and they were still offering the same incentive. We, like you are having a hard time trying to get the right amount of points, we have at least gotten more realistic with the numbers. Reading the threads on this board has really helped us get a better understanding of how it works....and i think it works pretty well for most people.

It's not an easy choice to make!

Incentives are only offered for a certain amount of time and they also change. You'd have to check with DVC as to what they are offering currently. When we purchased (2002) we had been one time (excluding the times as a kid). Our hotel wasn't that great and we really read up on it (my sister is a DVCer too) and bought 175 pts. It was all we could afford at the time. We figure one year we can stay in a studio and the next maybe a 1 BR..well in the 3 years we've had it..we stayed in a 1 br, a 2 br and this time a studio and a 3 day cruise...you can tailor it to your needs. I thought we'd need 250 points, but so far 175 works for us...maybe in a few more years we will add on. Remember that you have yearly dues as well. If you go to FL alot then jump in! My DH said that it was one of the best decisions he made (that says alot coming from him!) In the long run..it is MUCH cheaper. IMO Go for it! Just get the amount of points you can live with and if it's not enough add on.

How did you finally decide? Did you go the resale route or are you buying from Disney? I have a few questions if you don't mind. Do you plan to stay in studios or the larger rooms? We would probably only travel to WDW once a year since we are in upstate NY. I curious how you arrived at how many points you plan to purchase and how many that might be.

Thanks for your input....

It sounds like you made great use of your 175 points. I was thinking I would have to jump to 200 to stay in a 1BR (my preference). I suspect we would typically go in early February or March (excluindg President's week or spring break) or amy fall. BTW how was the cruise?

Deciding on the number of points can be the difficult part. You also need to decide which resort you want to be your "home". If the extra years are important to you, then SSR should be your obvious choice, but if number of points needed for size of accommodations, then you might want to go for an OKW resale. It takes less points for a stay in any size unit at OKW, so you would get more bang for your buck! I would say looking for a resale contract at OKW would give you a bit more flexibility for less money, if that is your biggest issue. Then, if you can afford it down the road a bit, add on at SSR for the extra years.
