I wouldn't say it's a scam but they are a for profit business who sells timeshares. I have found that many buyers let the Disney image and history cloud their judgment and they don't take the time to understand what they are buying. Some assume that Disney would never take advantage of them but again DVD is in business to sell timeshares.

For many owning a Disney timeshare can save them money depending on several factors including how they vacation.

For others ownership can financial burden.

I was never lied to by my DVC guide ever, he was very truthful and helpful when we were trying to make a decision. There was really no reason for him to lie it was just about giving us the info we needed.

I don't think DVC is a scam. After buying last March and having already spent an additional 8 days in the parks without "paying" for rooms that I wouldn't have otherwise, it seems that both parties are better off. I would agree with the assertion that DVC over-represents the availability of rooms at some of the resorts and that they are not as upfront about the option of purchasing points at other than the "designated" resorts. For instance, I'm sure the Villas at the Grand Californian are very nice; however, I may never know as numerous efforts to book at various times of the year have never resulted in consecutive days available. Bay Lake Tower is not quite as bad, and had I known to ask perhaps we could have had that as our home resort but I didn't and the DVC guide didn't volunteer that information. Still, overall it's been a tremendous positive and if you put in the appropriate amount of homework for a $20K plus investment you probably won't be disappointed.
