I was thinking of our decision to purchase DVC instead of a backyard inground pool and did not regret it one bit!!

We also tossed around buying a Vacation Villa in Florida but we really didnt need it since the weather is so great in Texas, we can just retire here, and visit florida whenever we want.

So we purchased DVC instead of a Villa and a backyard pool.

I'd rather PAY maintenance than DO maintenance!

What did you choose DVC over?

Food and clothing! :)

Seriously, there was nothing I passed on to get DVC, but it is coming out of the monthly budget, so we tightened up a bit on things like eating out and buying unnecessarily expensive clothing for the kids.

By the way, I got a beautiful 18 foot round swimming pool for my backyard instead of an inground. For $3,000 the pool is awesome and the kids more than love it. Just a suggestion, maybe you can have both as well!

It was DVC or a Harley or and Indian........We all can't fit on a motorcycle........

I was looking at a condo in Ft Walton - would stay there in the off season - rent in on season - it was $50,000 - yes DVC was cheaper -

anyway I lost on this one - I had some friends looking for a condo on the beach - so I recommend they contract this resort - the same condo - well a 1-bedroom - they now want $300,000 for it.....

I can't believe how much the Panhandle area has gone up in the last couple of years....

I went with DVC because I do love WDW - my niece and nephew were small then and my brother only gets to take a vacation using my points. I have enjoyed my DVC purchase so much. It is a great place to visit and even better place to own.

I thought that I would use the DVC more than a condo on the beach. and believe me - we (including family and friends) have!!!!

Finishing the basement. Decided to take our time, contract it out over a four year time period??? Might rethink it all together, trying to figure out the ROI when we sell in ten years (retirement and headed for Florida):sunny: :sunny:

We spend less on DVC then we spend on Deluxe resorts

Although I don't think we chose DVC over anything else specifically, I just wanted to say that you made a wise choice, not only to chose DVC, but also not to chose the pool. As fellow Texans, we had a pool for ten years, and recently moved to a house without one-our #1 criteria when we were house-hunting? No more pool! Maybe if you have kids, but otherwise-too much work for us!
LIFERBABE-check your PMs.

We gave up arguing about DVC and decided to bite the bullet and buy into DVC.

We didn't give up anything to buy into DVC. When we bought it was about the price of a mid-size car which was not any strain on our financial situation.

ITA Simba's Mom! Pools are great, but I knew Dh and I would argue about the care of it and would have had to pay someone to maintain it. We are very busy and have streamlined our lifestyles so that we can enjoy more family time.
We also knew that a pool would add very little resale value to our home and can sometimes be a liability.

We are thrilled with our choice!

Well, at the time(s) we bought we weren't choosing over anything.

But.................

The remodel of my kitchen is put off for a while
We sold the Yamaha Venture Royale as we never really used it
The $113 or so a month that goes to dues isn't being used for something else or being saved
We aren't getting the inground sprinkler system that DH wants so badly

So, I just look at is as diverted funds. We still find a way to get the things we want in due time. Plus we get to vacation!!!!

Gave up a major remodel job on my butt ugly master bathroom. The house was built in the late 60's and my bathroom is peach and brown with gold mosiac accents. AAAAHHHHH!!!:scared1:

We decided to buy into DVC with an inheritance instead of remodeling. We did get the SSR litho framed and hung it up in the bathroom as a reminder of what we spent the $ on.

I believe I am already hooked on DVC - members for only 3 months and I already have trips booked for July 2004, November 2004 and May 2005. My DH has set up a curfew for the amount of time I spend here on the DIS boards.

I used my "plastic surgery" fund (I'm not getting any younger.........) ALthough I won't look as good at least I'll have great memories.:jester:

Before we bought DVC we invited family and rented a house near Disney for a week,'99 maybe. Anyhoo, they were still building new houses in the same neighborhood so we were seriously thinking about buying one. They came furnished and there were plenty of rental companies that would rent it out, make the payments, and allow you to stay two weeks a year or more depending on your contract. A 2nd house in FL would have been nice but I'm glad we bought DVC a few years later instead.

I was in the USAF stationed there from '84 to '94, I wish I would have bought some land in Navarre back in the late '80's. We also thought about buying a condo there in the late '90's and having a friend in the area rent it out when we weren't visiting.

We gave up any hope that our family and acquaintances would believe we weren't obsessed with Disney World. They thought we might be when we went 3 years in a row, but now they're sure we're "Disney crazies" because we bought "a TIMESHARE"!:scared1:

Oh well, our reputation as well-traveled, sophisticated individuals  was worth losing so we could stay in style at Disney.

Seriously though, we gave up investing money that had been given to us by my father. We were going to buy stock, mutual funds, something, but bought DVC instead.

Yes- we're surrounded by people who say, "you're going to Disney again" every year, even though they always go to the same beach in New Jersey.

ROTFL! Gritzel4 you win the prize!! That sounds like my MIL's bathroom! LOL But hey! Nobody cares what your bathroom looks like when you are laying out by the pool at your luxurious home resort.

That's hilarious that you hung up your litho in the bathroom.

I took my litho's to work and placed them on top of the filing cabinet to remind me of the fruits of my labor.

And Skoi dont feel bad. I have a coworker that saved for years and then invested in stocks. He lost over half of his principal. He really regrets not using that money to do something he really wanted to do. He's retiring in a couple of years and now he says he saving for a Vette!

LIFERBABE: I feel that the if you gotta go - you gotta go. The question is am I talking about WDW or my bathroom?

Our other choice probably would have been a travel trailer. DVC was actually the cheaper option as we would have needed a new tow vehicle as well. :D

Gave up replacing the second car for a couple of years. Its a 10 year old Subaru with only 180,000 mi. on it. I believe DVC was the better choice because I don't think the car will make it to 2042.
