Hi there. I am a new owner who is planning the first trip home. I have to change my plans to go in July or August 2011 instead of June as I wanted.

How is DVC availability during these hot humid months? Would you recommend one month over another?
Is there anything you can recommend or advise if you have gone during these time? Anything you would do different?

We always go in the summer because I am a teacher. We have tried every week from July 4th through the week before Labor Day.

The heat was the same, whether we were there in July or August. However, the crowds became less and less as we headed in to August. So, we now plan our trips then.

I own at BLT but have had no problem getting other resorts at the 7 month window. I even got some of them at the 4 month mark.

Next summer, we are booked from August 10th - 15th, and I just changed my 1 bedroom SV to a 2 bedroom SV and got the last one. However, there were still LV rooms so I think you should have no trouble finding something available at many of the resorts.

The only thing is that free dining starts for the general public about mid August and I have heard that for the first week of this, it gets a bit crowded in terms of restaurants, but we are usally typically gone before that starts.

Good luck!

Thx. Do you find the crowd levels the same? Its the first trip I am taking my parents and would like for them to enjoy. I know its usually crowded but am thinking July 4th is busier, etc.

Yes, the crowds seemed to be a bit better every week later into the summer that we went. The year we were there for 4th of July it was crazy. The next year, we went the 2nd week in July and it was a bit better.

This year, we were there from July 30th to August 5th and it was a bit more crowded than last year when we were there from August 5th to the 12th.

In our experience, August was definitely a bit less crowded than July.

Very hot, including hot and humid at night, usual daily thunderstorm pattern that can bring two or three a day mostly in afternoon to evening. Come August risk of hurracaine increases. Time arround July 4 is most crowded but until mid-Aug crowds are huge, after mid-Aug you get a significant decrease. DVC availability is generally good even at 7 months except for time around July 4 -- though summer is a very high Disney demand time, it is not a very high DVC demand time.

Honestly we went last summer in early August and I found the crowds to be no more and at times less than when I went in early March, October and early Dec.

The heat and hurricane season keeps alot of people away. The later you can go in August the better as to crowds, sorry the heat will be the same, miserable.

Man oh man. I think I will try my hardest to stick with early June (arriving around June 6) then. I know its hot but isn't it a little better crowds wise and heat wise than July and August?

Honestly last summer the heat was miserable all June, July and August. Heck it was 91 the last week of Oct. :headache:

Typically summer crowds are middle of June until middle of August but almost all Southeast schools get out now the end of May so many go then.

I think the crowds and heat will only marginally improve anytime during those months except for the week of the 4th.

And we have gone then and it was not bad, it was like everyone thought it would be crowded and stayed away.

2 years ago we went the 3rd week of June and the heat and crowds were bad. Last year we went the 3rd week of August and found it to be about the same. But the points were a lot less after like August 15th. Next year we are planning a 9 night trip over the 4th of July and also expect it to be hot and crowded. We've come to expect it at Disney in the summer regardless of the month we travel. But we have AP's and we balance our park time with pools, shopping and indoor dining to escape the heat. That would be my advice to you regardless of when you choose to go. Summer months are not good for spending all day at the parks.

We are going next year at the end of August. We went in 2008 just my sons and me for a short 4 day stay we ran into a tropical storm. It was quite the adventure. We put on our rain ponchos and had a blast. We went to Epcot and it was pracitcally empty. But, we had friends who have gone in May and had a heat wave of over 95 degree every day and friends who went last October and had the same weather. So, May-Oct, Florida, you are guaranteed over 85 degrees and humidity.

Regarding the parks the only time I noticed a little quieter was when we went around Dec 10th thru 17th one year. It was comfortable weather and not super crowded.

I am looking forward to our first trip the week before Easter as brand new DVC members at our home resort of BLT.

The good thing is I am looking forward to as a DVC owner is slowing it down and enjoying the resort and going more often.:cloud9:

We went in June 2006 and 2008. We went in August 1997 and 2001 - not much difference between all those dates (in 2008 the temperature hit 100F). We went in September 2002 and although it wasnt as hot many things were closed as it was not high season. In June the parks close earlier than they do in July/August so you could do things later in the cooler temperatures.

We are owners in SSR. At the 11 month window I was able to book a treehouse. We will be there from 8/15/11 to 8/15/11.

We have been in June, July and August. August maybe be hotter , but the crowds are smaller.

We have been the last 3 Julys, all mid-late in the month. This past summer was our 1st as DVC members. We joined in April and tried to make a ressie on our own; only OKW was available because we needed 8 nights. We broke it up into a split stay and got the first 4 nights in a BLT lake view studio on our own, then our guide got us the last 4 nights at BCV. To say it was hot would be an understatement. I started dripping with sweat after being outside for 5 minutes. We also went Labor Day weekend, and it was slightly cooler. Still very hot, but not as bad as mid-July.

We are going to try August next year because we're cruising on the Dream August 16. We have 3 nights before the cruise booked and 4 nights after, all at BLT as that is all we can book right now. Hoping to switch the precruise nights to BCV; wish me luck, please!!

We were just there this past August..8/11-8/20 and was able to book 2 AKV savannah studios under the 7 month mark. We also had other resorts to choose from that were available. It was very hot, but the crowds were not bad at all. We had a great time even though it was hot & humid. We knew what to expect and made sure to drink lots of water and stop for multiple ice cream breaks (although we had to eat them quickly because they were melting so fast!). :rotfl:
