i was thinking of using my dvc in california next year
is it less points in august or in november
also does it cost me money to borrow points from the following year or do i have to buy points if i dont have enough

It does not cost any money to borrow your points. If you do not own in California my understanding is it is hard to book at the 7 month window. Good Luck

Denise in MI

So are u saying it better for me to wait till next year sometime to book
My home resort is in Florida

We are making our first joint Disneyland trip at the end of summer - we booked with points. However our stay is split between all three resorts. 3 nights at the Disneyland Hotel, 3 nights in a 1 BR Villa at the Grand Californian, and 2 nights at Paradise Pier Hotel.
We had wait listed our last two nights hoping to get into the VGC, but we are less than 90 days out, and fairly confident that it wasn't going to come through, so we booked at Paradise Pier our last two nights - all on points.

At 7 months, the chances of getting into Villas at the Grand Californian are very very slim. I believe there are only 48 Villas total there, so very small inventory.

You should plan to stay at least part of your stay at one of the other two hotels at Disneyland on points.

You would literally need to be on the phone as soon as member services opens on the 7 month mark - OR consider walking your reservation a week in advance - please don't flame me for suggesting that!

But a stay at Disneyland IS possible at 7 months out!

Well I'm looking to go there august of 2012 or in November of 2012
So when should call about a room
Also I'm look for a two bedroom or Gand villa room
Or am I better renting a home or condo from vrbo.com or homeaway.com
Thanks

You need to call exactly seven months out from your trip. So if you are looking at August 1, 2012, you'll call January 1.

We are staying at the villas at grand californian for 5 days we called right at the 7 day mark right at opening for oct and only got the 4 nights.

So we are using the rest of the points to stay in palm springs

It is difficult to reserve vgc at the 7 month mark

There are only 48 villas at the Grand Californian so availability will always be limited. Only TWO of them are Grand Villas.

With 3 years worth of upgrades to California Adventure finally coming to a head in 2012--highlighted by the opening of CarsLand--demand could really skyrocket. Nothing wrong with trying to get a room but I wouldn't recommend buying any plane tickets until you have a confirmed hotel reservation.

Making a reservation for California DVC is exact same way as you make reservation for Florida DVCs. It doesn't cost moeny to borrow from following yesr, if it is not your home resort, you just have to wait till the 7-months window. If you can't get a room at VGC, you can book a room in DLH or PPH with points wintout additonal booking fee. Just check your point chart booklet for point requirement.
Hope that answer your question. :goodvibes
