Hi! We will be using points from our new DVC contract at The Poly from Aug1-Aug10 2015. We are so excited!! We have stayed here every year, but tried BC last yr bc of the construction. Can't wait to get back and as DVC owners!!! Bc I'm new to this, I'm wondering about housekeeping. I know they come on the 4th and 8th. We do not reuse our towels and we tend to have a lot of trash bc we get bfast at Capt Cooks and sometimes lunch and eat in the room. I have read that you can ask housekeeping (assuming in the halls) for more towels or toiletries, if needed. How easy are they to be found, though? And what do you do w your dirty towels and trash? I know I can pay for towel service, but just wanted to make sure there wasn't another option. Thanks!

You will get a full clean on the 4th and trash and towel on the 8th. You can ask for extra towels but for your needs, buying towel paks seem like a better answer. There are trash rooms at all DVC resorts where you can deposit your trash.

When staying in a Studio we take out our trash/recycles daily and wash towels in the laundry room. Bring Tide/Detergent Pods. When in a 1or 2 Bedroom we take out our trash daily, I clean the room, and throw the towels in the washer.
You can purchase towel packs by calling or pay for daily housekeeping. That is what keeps member dues at the lowest cost possible. It is like being at "home".

You do not just ask a maid in the hallway, you call housekeeping and order the delivery of extra towels.

From the MS website under the Poly Amenities :
  • Towel Package – $6.00 (5 bath towels, 4 hand towels, 5 wash cloths and 2 bath mats)
or you can pay more for Trash and Towel service daily:

Additional Trash & Towel Service Daily Rates:

  • Trash & Towel Service for Deluxe Studio – $15 per day requested
  • Trash & Towel service for Bungalow – $25 per day requested
Note: Additional Housekeeping services may be requested with at least a 24-hour notice.
I am not sure how the split bath is allocated towels for a Poly studio. Usually in DVC villas, the number of towels is determined by the number of full bathrooms, a set in each bath. But for the Poly it might only be one set.

Yep - you can "order" and pay for more towels and toiletries. And there will be a trash room for you to take that out as you need to. Otherwise there is the option of paying for housekeeping every day too. Lots of reports seem to be that it doesn't always go as planned though - probably since housekeeping normally does not expect that for a DVC room.

Towels are supposed to be allocated based on room occupancy. There were five towels in my PVB studio. There should only be five towels in a one-bedroom, too. But, mistakes happen (often) and I had 12 towels in my BLT one-bedroom.

In BLT and AKV's 1BRs there are 4 towels/wash cloths in each bathroom, it's been that way since 2009.

Biggest difference in DVC and being a regular hotel guest is that nothing is free for you anymore. Anything you want you pay for. Member fees pay for everything, towels, cleaning, security, maintenance, etc. And if you just ask for more without paying for it, your dues go up next year and then everyone pays for the stops in the hallway. All those freebies you used to get as a regular hotel guest were part of your daily cost of your hotel room.

You'll have as many bath towels as sleeping spaces. So a bungalow sleeps eight and gets eight bath towels. Studios at PVB sleep five so they get five bath towels. Half as many hand towels and as many face cloths. If you need more, you can also consider bringing towels from home if you don't want to buy a towel pack. The same goes for shampoo, conditioner, etc. You just get those replaced every four days. We always bring ours from home. We reuse our towels just like we do at home.

I have always ordered the towel pack for my brood. I don't mind reusing a towel once, but that's it so the towel pack tides us over until the 4th day of our stay which is Trash and Tidy. Full cleaning will be on your 8th day, if your stay is that long.

Nope, for an eight night stay or longer, full cleaning is day four, not day eight.

Thank you:) I had no idea about the trash room. That will work out fine. Also, I'm fine ordering towel packs. Being a new DVC member, I'm just trying to figure it all out! I was just trying to confirm or not the things I had read on here. Have a magical day!!

Our family finds that hanging up towels - similarly to what we do at home - works when we are staying in a studio. If there were an issue - someone spilled something or towels actually got dirty - I would simply go down the the laundry room and wash them. There is even a very useful app for the laundry rooms which will let you know how many washers and dryers are available at any given time. You will also receive notice when you wash and dry cycles are finished.

Towels are no issue at all when we are staying in a 1 or 2 bedroom, because we have the washer/dryer.

As far as the trash, what we've noticed is that since we've become members, it's just become a natural habit to place a trash bag next to the door and to take a load of trash and drop it in the trash room every morning when we leave the room. It's become such a habit that we find ourselves doing it even at regular hotels!

I forgot to mention that when you have a cleaning, housekeeping will remove the towel packs you purchased and not give you replacements for those towels. So either do laundry that day and wash your extra towel packs and hide them if housekeeping hasn't cleaned by then. Otherwise you will be spending more money for the extra packs for days 4 through 8.

I rented points for the first time and will be staying at BCV in September. When you take trash to the trash room, are there more trash bags, or do I need to bring some? Thanks.

The waste cans usually have a roll of bags under the bag in use. If you run short, just call housekeeping and request more at no charge. You will have a larger trash can and a recycle container usually under the sink in the kitchen or kitchenette, both will have bags in them. When they are full we just take the bags to trash/recycle room and place them in the appropriate bin. It has gotten to be such a habit that even on our cleaning days we usually have already dumped the trash/recycle ourselves, like Simbasmom said, as we leave the room each day. BTW, all of the trash cans in the room are the same way and they will have extra bags in the bottom of the can.

My plan would be to order one towel pack early in the course (they may or may not charge for it but should), wash on day 3 then let them swap out any dirty towels on day 4 hoarding any clean ones. If this doesn't give enough to get to day 8, then it'd only be one more washing or one more towel pack for most.

It depends the 1 bedrooms with 2 full bathrooms get double the towels as they put 4 in each bathroom
