Hello All,

I have been a DVC member since 10/05 now, and although I have not posted here a lot, I read the boards everyday. All you guys are great and I have really gained a lot of useful DVC knowledge.

In reading these boards, there seems to be a lot of recurring discussions about the same problems. Without arguing the pros/cons of each subject, I was curious which topic is the biggest deal to fellow members. In other words, if you could solve one of these problems/issues, which would it be?

It does not matter which side of the issue you are on, so please don't try to prove your point. Just comment on the biggest thorn in your side.

1. Smoking/Non-Smoking
2. Refillable Mugs
3. Pool Hopping Abuse
4. Room Occupancy
5. Disney Transportation
6. Housekeeping/Maintenance
7. Inconsistent CM Info

There may be others, but these seem to garner the most attention. Just trying to get a feel for what may be the hottest issues. :confused3

Thanks

Of all the above, a dirty, poorly maintained room would bother me the most. so I chose this problem -- maybe because I just read the "Mold Key West" thread.

However, I think these are all important.

While I think maintenance is important, I have only had a maintenance issue once in more than 20 OKW trips, so while it's important, I'm not convinced it is a huge problem.

To me, being assured a non-smoking room that some idiot has not smoked in ahead of me is the most important issue.

I think that housekeeping/maintenance would also handle some of the smoking issues, I voted for housekeeping/maintenance.

Bobbi :sunny:

Smoking preference is at the top of the list for me, closely followed by housekeeping and room maintenance.

Smoking would be number one by far. Followed closely by housekeeping. :)

I voted smoking, because if that was solved a lot of the maintenance issues would be also.

Interesting idea, Geezer, and I suspect you are right. If folks didn't smoke in the non-smoking units it would decrease the turn around of a non-smoking unit that was smoked in.

I voted for the smoking/non-smoking issue. Though I havent experienced not getting my non-smoking request yet, it would be a major issue for me if that were the case.

One other issue you might want to add...Which is the best DVC resort?

Course we all know its VWL ;)

I voted smoking/non-smoking for two reasons. I think it generates more complaint volume than anything else, and it's relatively easy to fix.

Some of the housekeeping problems are horror stories, but they are very occasional. We've only had small issues and they were quickly and cheerfully resolved, even late at night.

If Disney really wants to fix the smoking issue, all they have to do is establish a reasonable policy and enforce it. They can do that without offending or inconveniencing smokers.

I travel a lot on business, and I've stayed in several hotels recently who have established stringent smoking policies, and are enforcing them with no worrries. The particular hotels I've stayed in were completely non-smoking. I would not advocate that seriously for Disney, but they could establish a reasonable number of smoking rooms and institute cleaning fees for anyone who smokes in a non-smoking room.

The hotels I stayed in found that nominal fees don't work, so they charge $150-200 -- and they do in fact charge the fees. They have had credit card disputes, and they've won every single one, because they have the guest sign an acknowledgment of the policy at checkin. I asked if they were concerned about those guests coming back, and their answer was, "We don't WANT those guests back. We'd rather have a clean, vacant room."

The problem is Disney believes not facing issues like smoking/non-smoking, pool hopping abuse, saving pool lounges, etc. is better customer relations than enforcing policies. I think they are wrong; I think that posture hurts them in the long run.

I TOTALLY agree, Jim! Not taking a stand is much more harmful in the long run.

In 10 years none of those items has ever been a major issue for us...I didn't see any reason to vote...JMHO :confused3

Ah, the old "if it doesn't happen to me, then it doesn't happen" philosophy! :)

Hope your lucky streak continues for another 10 years!

And in *my* 10 years and more than 20 visits, the only one that has annoyed me is the smoking issue, so it got my vote. A few minor housekeeping issues, oh, and one snake  were easily resolved and inconsequential.

I voted for pool hopping. It is a great perk for Dvc members, but what does irritate me are those that stay off site more cheaply then pool hop to resort and dvc pools. My second problem is housekeeping. I called housekeeping to request an extra paid for room clean but they never carried it out. I can't say i was surprised, as others on this board have experienced same problem. Next time, i will arrange thru front desk, as opposed to the lazy housekeeping team - who i believe had no interest whatsoever in carrying out the extra work.
