Hey All. We just got back from a weekend at DVC HHI. We stayed in a one bedroom in building 19. We had never been to Hilton Head so this is about the island as well as the Resort:

On the plus side:

+DVC Hilton Head resort is nice, rather peaceful even at a peak time.

+Nice big deck to sit out on.

+Pool was nice.

+Plenty of parking

+Beach was beautiful…not crowded.

+Tons of good restaurants

+Stacks…try the Crème Brulee French Toast

+ The island itself. Gorgeous trees…very well preserved. Really good “feel” to it.

Some challenges:

-Used 140 points for two nights

-1 Bedroom was poorly laid out.

-One bathroom!

-Could hear everything in the unit above us. Sounded like a bowling alley up there.

-DVC ran gas powered blowers for hours every morning, I guess to clean the paths. Made sitting out on that nice deck a lot less peaceful.

-Bathroom laid out inconveniently. There was almost no place to put stuff, especially in the shower.

-Sinks, jetted tub and shower drained slowly….really slowly.

-On the island, nearly every building was painted a dull grey/green. Looked old and monotone.

-It was unbearably hot and humid, and I live in the South (Charlotte NC).

Conclusion:

Overall I think we will save our points for WDW from now on. If we visit HHI again, it will be during a cooler season and we will stay somewhere else.

Thanks for the review, we haven't stayed there and now we can wait a few more years.

Thank you for the review! We have been given a heads up on dear friend's daughter getting married next May in Charleston. We will hopefully take advantage of the drive and spend the weekend in Charleston, then four days at HHI (assuming I can get it at 7mos). It would be just the two of us and we'd splurge for a 1 bedroom. Should be enough time to decide where it ranks for us in the future, but using our DVC at other resorts is fun for us now as "kind of empty nesters" since we haven't been able to break away from the convenience of BCV.

We have been going to HHI for 12 years and learned many, many years ago you never stay there over a Friday or Saturday night. The points are just way to high. We only make 5 night reservations and if we want to stay longer, we stay down the road at the Hampton Inn, which always has cheap rates.

We just got back from a Sunday-Thursday stay and we absolutely loved it. We loved it so much that I wish my Saratoga points were Hilton Head points! The CMs there are the best. They always referred to our kids by name and just went out of their way for everything. It was hot, but we live in Florida so when we got home it was even hotter.

The only part of your cons I can agree with was how slow the shower drained in the 2nd bedroom of our villa. :) The master bath was fine but the kid's had a major issue with their shower.

We love Disney's HHI! Took family there for a great 4th of July celebration a few years ago. Kids enjoyed kayaking, paddle boarding and great CM experiences. When driving to FL, I'll go out of my way to stay there.

It would also have been better if it wasn't a drive, bus, or bike ride to the beach. Beach house was nice, though. Also a lack of on-site dining, except the the snack bar. Good that there are a few off-property restaurants within walking distance. Loved the one bedroom but agree with comments of lack of shelf space in bathroom.
