I haven't seen any threads recently and was just wondering if there has been any news or information about the status of this proposed and announced DVC property. Have there been shovels in the dirt yet, or it is still a concept at this point?

Can someone remind me when this was thought to be opened, and if folks think this schedule will be kept?

There was a ceremonial blessing and groundbreaking ceremony back in late November. Both DVC News and Mousplanet had articles about it. I think it's supposed to open in 2011 (that's without re-reading it all so I could be off)... I haven't read anything yet about it being postponed or cancelled due to the economy, but you never know with Disney. There's a lot of time between now and when it's supposed to open...

I am staying at Marriott's Ko Olina right next door to the Disney site in early April. I'll get a first hand look and give you a report--I'll get to the bottom of it!

I'll be staying in a 2 bedroom unit at the Ko Olina Marriott in early March and promise to take pictures. I just have to figure out how to actually post them between now and then. That area was very nice when I stayed at the Ihilani about 6 years ago. Mountainview on one side, oceanview on the other.

We just got home from the Doorway to Dreams member event here in the Chicago area. During the presentation they talked about Hawaii, and showed the artist renderings of the resort. They mentioned "late" 2011, (which would work for me, DH and my 25th anniversary will be late Oct. 2011, we've always talked about going back to Hawaii). We didn't add on tonight, but when they open up Hawaii, we'll be in line to add on!:)

Given stories like this one from last week and then this one from today and the fact that there is no good economic forecasts on the horizon, don't be surprised if this project is seriously delayed.

There's a thread somewhere stating that park attendence was down 32% for the first quarter for both WDW and DL. If thats true, I'd hate to see Hawaii postponed or even cancelled.

Talked to my guide today about DVC Hawaii and other items. My guide had nothing on Hawaii to report, just that it had been announced, but that the economy is affecting it and "everything is up in the air." There is apparently some sort of article in Wall Street Journal today regarding DVC (or perhaps Disney only) and layoffs.

The real story is that The Walt Disney Company (which includes movies, consumer products, and ABC) had a 32% drop in profit in its fiscal first quarter (the final 3 months of 2008). Disney's Parks and Resorts reported revenue of $2.67 billion, down just 4%. Reports say that attendance at Disney's Orlando parks fell 5%. That's surprisingly good, given the economy. And now Disney is aggressively running promotions such 7 nights for the price of 4 to keep the turnstiles turning.

There are no credible reports that Disney's Hawaii project is delayed. The timing of the project could be very good if sales begin in early 2011 when the economic recovery is likely to be well underway.

I understand the Parks and Resorts were expecting to be down 15% so -5% was better than anticipated in that area.

Flew into HNL on Friday and caught a brief glimpse of Ko'Olina from the airplane on approach. There was one lot completely cleared -- but I don't know to whom it belonged.
