What is the current status of the DVC Hawaii resort? When is it supposed to open? DW and myself are hoping to do a Hawaii trip in 2013. We plan on doing a week cruise and then a week hopefully at the DVC Hawaii resort? How difficult do you think it will be to get 7 month ressies? Since we are completely flexible as far as date, I guess my plan is to get the DVC ressie first and then either book the cruise the week before or the week after (NCL Pride of America - if it's still sailing then).

It's coming along nicely. I live on Oahu and check up on the project every once in awhile.

It shoudn't be that difficult to book at the 7 month window.

We too are hoping to plan our first trip to Hawai'i when the DVC resort opens. I ordered an O'ahu travel book to learn about the island. I am really looking forward to this trip! Pricing flights however is really scary!:scared1: It looks like from our home it's going to run us close to $900 each! Oh well! This is one of my once-in-a-lifetime vacations on my bucket list.

Is it opening in 2011 or 2012? I've heard both-

Has Disney officially declared it a DVC Resort? Or mixed DVC/hotel property? If its a DVC resort, and scheduled to open in 2011, shouldn't reservations start 11 and 7 months prior to opening for Members? Which would put that timeframe somewhere in 2010. Which would mean membership sales should open soon. What's wrong with this timeline/train of thought? Or, if the opening is in 2012, same thoughts, just 12 months later?

I just hope it's open by 2013 which is when we plan to go. As far as air flights - we learned something from when we went out there a few years back. This trip we plan to fly to LA (from NC) and then spend the night there and then go onto Hawaii the next day. Last trip we did it all in one day and it was a killer.

I am hoping by 2011... 20 year anniversary. WolfPackFan that is good advice. Thanks from a Carolina (the state, not the tarheels:rolleyes:) Girl. I have never flown that far, so I would not have thought about spending the night in LA.

From the member site:

Walt Disney Parks and Resorts recently broke ground for its first family destination resort in Hawai'i with a traditional Hawaiian blessing ceremony on its 21-acre oceanfront property, located at the Ko Olina Resort & Marina development on the western side of O'ahu. Scheduled to open in 2011, the new family friendly destination will overlook breathtaking crystal blue lagoons and white sand beaches and is planned to include 350 hotel rooms and 480 Disney Vacation Club timeshare villas.

DVC's new Hawaii resort will be incredible and much anticipated. It is my understanding it will be hotel and DVC Resort. Set to open in summer of 2011. Hope somebody posts pictures of the construction and views on the boards soon. :cool1::banana:

The man made lagoons are awesome. We go there on the weekends and it's perfect with kids. I can't wait to actually stay there.

Traditionally for new DVC resorts, bookings have started less than 11 months prior to opening, and have usually had a 2 week priority booking period for owners of that resort. So it's hard to tell when reservations might start. Of course, since it's Hawaii and it requires more travel planning, past history may not apply.

We will clebrate our 10th anivesary that year and hope to be able to book it too. for 2011

We just purchased at BLC at the end of June. Our host talked non-stop about Hawaii and how wonderful it's going to be. The "min-host" at the GF talked about what a wonderful addition Hawaii is going to be. When we got our BLC contracts, plastered on just about every document was a "don't buy DVC if you're counting on Hawaii; Hawaii is not yet part of DVC and may never be; if you're buying this you may not have access to any DVC property in Hawaii."

If you do a Goggle search on "Disney Ko Olina", you'll get lots of hits on Disney's new property in Hawaii. Some of the news items even have pictures and videos.

I know that our contract for BLT specifically stated that the Hawaii property may or may not be part of the DVC resorts. However, I find it interesting that several of the news items about the Ko Olina quote executives from the DVC side of the Disney corporation. I'd be very, very surprised if Ko Olina was not made part of the DVC family.

Wow, WolfpackFan, we are planning on doing the same thing (cruise/resort stay). I had the same thought about booking -DVC 1st, then the cruise. I think the cruise options will be easier to get than Disney options. We too are flexible with our dates. I can't wait. I have always wanted to go to Hawaii. My DH went twice when he was in the Air Force, but it was temporary duty so I didn't get to go. Good luck with your plans. We are hoping to go in 2011.

I am hoping to get a chance to check it out in August when we move our oldest DD to Hawaii Pacific University!! She will be graduating from there is 2013 so we are hoping to be able to use our DVC at some point while she is still in college there................

There are a few resorts that were announced but never built, so this is a standard disclaimer to cover DVC in the event they cancelled the Hawaii project. This disclaimer has been in all docs since the 2nd resort opened...
I don't believe they broke ground on any of the discontinued projects, so I think we are in good shape for the Hawaii DVC...

I am SOOOOO happy it's opening in 2011- that's our 25th anniversary! We went to Hawaii for our honeymoon, and it's taken 25 years for us to go back- I can't wait!!:yay:

This is just standard "Cover Your Butt" legal copy. Basically, if they didn't put that in there, and someone bought in to DVC now, with the assumption that Ko Olina would be a part of the club, it could open them up to liability.

There have been a few cases where properties were planned and even started to be built, but had to be abandoned or turned in to something else. Something could happen there. Hurricane could come through and destroy the project 1/2 way through. At that point, they could decide to stop it. They could start building it and find something about the landscaping that keeps them from completing the resort 1/2 way through. There are lots of unknowns still.

My thoughts is that they definitely intend to complete the resort and have the DVC component there. And short of something exceptional that would prevent the project from completing or prevent the project from completing currently as designed, you can expect it to be completed with the DVC portion.
