I had today off, so we decided last night to take an improtu trip to the Maryland beaches. I found a room at the last minute using the internet, picking one that had a 3 1/2 star rating, and average guest ratings of 4 out of 5 stars.

We have a beautiful view of the ocean from our room, the place is clean, and the bed is comfortable. We're even lucky enough to have a little kitchenette with a fridge, stove, microwave, and dishwasher. It's not as big as a DVC one-bedroom, but I feel comfortable that I'm making an apples-to-apples comparison.

Boy, if this is what most people think is a 4-out-of-5, Disney has really, really spoiled me. We're enjoying ourselves, but never would have rated the hotel anywhere near that high. Maybe a 2 at best. Probably only because we're comparing it to DVC, though. I've apparently become a hotel snob as a result of our WDW DVC stays.

No kidding! We're also DVC snobs:snooty: We love BLT and always feel like we're living the life there. We stayed at BW last time and the rooms were a bit run down - at least we felt that way before going to Ocean City NJ and renting a house - now that was run down.

My almost 10 year old daughter's favorite thing to say is "Well this ain't no Disney huh?"
:rotfl2:

OP - funny, I was just discussing this subject with my DH. We're just back from one of the top-rated OF hotels in Myrtle Beach - Ocean Reef. Other than the fact that WDW was missing;)it compared favorably to any of the disney properties.:thumbsup2 Freshly rehabed & entire hotel was pristine, they even managed to escape having the typical wet elevator you find @ the beach. The room, with full size refrigerator, MW & stove top; was much larger than the DVC studios and (other than SAB) the poolscape was far better than anything onsite.

I wouldn't call it a true deluxe but neither would i use the term for majority of the WDW hotels. FYI, I'm an Ocean City, MD, veteran, it's hard to find a decent property for a reasonable price, possibly could influence more postive reviews.

enjoy the beach:goodvibes

"Hello everyone, My name is Mark (Hi Mark).... And because of DVC, i too have become a hotel snob

...and i don't regret it either! :rotfl2::thumbsup2

With that said, we have brought many friends down with us, and i think i have created many more "snobs" in the process. :rotfl:

I'm guilty as charged too! Between DVC, Marriott, Westin and the cottage we go to at Little River on the CA coast I have a hard time staying in a regular hotel room anymore.:upsidedow

Dave, are you staying at The Grand? Those rooms are huge and very nice with a kitchenette and all but......I know what you mean.

We're on our way to Rehoboth next week. Have fun anyway! :thumbsup2

Dave, are you staying at The Grand?
No, we're at the Princess Royale.

We're having a great time. LOL, it was a great way to stop obsessing about our August WDW countdown.

We have a place in OC and just tried a new restaurant! It's called the Lobster Shanty and it's on Rt. 54 (head down Ocean Highway towards Delaware, turn left on Rt. 54 go about a half mile. It's a yellow building on your left.) Food is wonderful and reasonable and the views are beautiful! We also like Just Hooked in Fenwick. Great food but no view. It looks like you picked a perfect weekend to be at the beach! Have fun!

Just having the kids in their own room, has made vacationing anywhere else sooooo difficult. LOVE my DVC:love:

Exactly. We don't consider a single hotel room "vacation". Ever.

I've been saying how my baby boy is going to be a hotel snob. He's 3 months old and I have 3 DVC trips planned in the next year I joke that he won't know what to do the first time we stay somewhere that isn't DVC.

We took a last minute trip this past May, and were short on a few points, so we decided to stay at Port Orleans Riverside. While it is defnitely not DVC, I thought it was pretty nice, but small. Upon walking into our room, our 4 1/2 year old son exclaims, "This is the smallest hotel I have ever seen. Hey Mommy, where is the kitchen?" At that point, I knew I was in trouble... we have turned him into a hotel snob too!

DVC has ruined my children. :rotfl2: I started a thread a few weeks ago about this very thing and my kids. If there isn't a separate living area then we are slumming it.

My kids are spoiled rotten...

We once walked into our very deluxe hotel room with 2 queens and a pullout, and my 8yo DS said looked at DH and me and said "what room are you going to sleep in?" :rotfl2: He was very disapponted that we ended up sleeping with him :)

We stayed at a beautiful Hyatt in Bethesda MD. We walked into the room and my 5 year old DD says "It's just a bedroom" I guess DVC made us a family of hotel snobs.
