Late Sun night one of the Disney bloggers posted that the MDE site had Fast Pass info starting Jan 1 but they quickly removed the "error"

Yesterday (Mon) I was talking to a DVC guide and he mentioned that he heard FP is coming back on Jan 1.

If fastpass comes back, my bet is there will be a cost associated with it. They aren't going to leave money on the table again. At DL before the close, it was $20 per day to use MaxPass, a great deal for the convenience of using the app. Shanghai charges based on a package of fastpasses, 1, 3 or 6. Universal has Express Pass, free for their top resorts, charge for others.

With a lot of things, this situation gives them a chance to "reset". Dining Plans, Fastpass, early/late hours.

If it comes back at a cost, why would anyone pay a premium to stay onsite? I would have to stay off-site to cover the cost of FP+

I can't see them letting them go free. This is the company that charges for resort parking, which is ridiculous considering the rates they charge. Now, they could do the same as parking and allow DVC free or Deluxe resorts free like Universal. Universal Express Pass is nice, you don't make times, you just get in the Express Line. We stayed at Portofino so it was free. I think they charge like $85 for others. Definitely an incentive to stay Deluxe.

From what I've seen regarding wait times, I'd like to see FP+ available in January. I know that traditionally it's a slow time of year, so even if FP+ were available for a few rides, like TSMM and 7DMT, I'd be happy.

Disney will charge for them at some point. That is a given. How they will go about it is the question. But this has been the mindset before the Covid.

Excellent point about the ability to "reset".

DL MaxPass also comes with photos though. They’d have to decrease the cost of the pass and exclude the photos to not cut into the market of the PhotoPass packages.

DL Max Pass is nice.....Photos and if AP holder, one flat rate for the passes.
I have used it several times. I think it was $100 for the year with the photos........but I did only get it when the grand kids were on the trip with us, because alone, the two of us don't do many photos.

Charge for fastpass... if true Bye Bye Disney, I will sell all my points and end our 42 year relationship with Disney The final straw!!!

Same here...we go for 3-4 weeks and I certainly am not paying for FP for that many days.

Keep in mind that Disneyland has free fast passes, MaxPass is optional. Well, at least that was the system prior to the pandemic. While this may not be a popular opinion, I’d pay for a MaxPass type service in WDW. I don‘t like FP+ at all and hate that I have to get up at 3:00 a.m. to reserve them.

Universal was charging for resort parking long before Disney. I've had to pay for resort parking at Universal's Royal Pacific when Harry Potter first arrived. That was my first visit and they are still charging for valet and self parking. A lot of the higher end hotels in the area have been charging.

Universal doesn't show the fee up front in the room rate. You have to look in the small print and there it is - 'valet and self parking - fees apply'.

I did stay at Universal to get Express pass - it was a deal at the time. Plus the early hour for the resorts when we went - haven't followed or checked to see if that's still an option.

Would love a similar perk for DVC but don't see it happening. Deluxe - maybe. We kept free parking because of our contract. And they've made it 'less' at Boardwalk. Longer walks, less tolerance at the front entrance. In the present clime - I expect they will try their best to give less going forward, citing resale restrictions. Started to list and decided if they are reading I don't want to supply any ideas, lol.

Prior to trying Max Pass at DL I was right there with you. But since using it, I really like that system better. It allows for far less planning. No more stress of having to sit by the phone to make certain FP’s I maybe very unpopular, but I wouldn’t mind a max pass system. (Now we are only a family of 3).

The crowds were BAD this past week as were waits for almost all rides. If Disney is going to keep quietly raising the max attendance allowed and releasing more park reservations then they need to bring back FP as well as open other closed attractions and restaurants. Stand-by is longer supporting the amount of people in the parks and the limited openings is actually compounding the social distancing issue as people have limited places to go. And that amount is only going to grow.
