Anyone else upset about the huge price increase on greens fees for DVC Members who travel end of April ???????

I know I am. I purchased a membership in Dec. with plans to play a couple of rounds then and was planninga golf only trip in April. I checked the rates for late April of last year and they were$ 39 if you played after 10 A.M.. When I checked recently the rates after 10 were $83. We're still going at the end of April but will not be playing Disney courses. That will be the last DVC golf membership I purchase.

We're pretty upset. Since DH usually plays every day, that's been a BIG increase in our vacation cost. Now the AP rate is better for before 10:00 am. The one thing that keeps us sane about this is that when we joined there was no DVC discount before 10:00, and DH didn't want to eat into our entire day by playing later. By playing before 10:00, he can meet me for lunch, then do whatever at the parks. So for us, even though it's only a 25% discount, it's still better than it was (which was nothing) when we bought.

Simba's Mom, So the AP rate is 25% off the regular before 10am rate? DH and I are going in Nov and will would like to play a round. I'm also going in July for 7 days so I was thinking about getting an AP.

AP golf discount is 30% off most times of day (not useable with any other discount and thus, e.g., not useable in late afternoon when you are getting heavily discounted twilight rate). That is 30% off the Disney "Day Guest" rate which is the highest rate (applicable to those coming from off-site who have no other discount).

The DVC discount is now 25% before 10 a.m. and 40% after 10. It is better than the AP discount both those times of day because it is a discount off the Disney "Resort Guest" rate, which is the normal rate for those staying on site and that rate itself is significantly less than the "Day Guest" rate.

In any event, the current DVC discount is worse than it was before. When going and deciding whether to use the DVC discount make sure you first check other discounts. For example, there is usually a 2-round discount being offered to anyone -- you pay for two rounds and get a discount and thus can play twice while you are there and can buy as many 2-round passes as you desire. Right now that 2-round discount is better than doing the before-10 a.m. 25% DVC discount for 2 rounds (but not better than the 40% discount for after 10 rounds).

Wow! This is getting confusing. My DW and I play 4 rounds each trip and take two trips a year. We are DVC and AP holders. Last year we also bought the "golf pass" for $60 and I think it is now $75. In Jan. we paid $83 each after 10AM. My question is- do I need the "golf pass" for $75 based on the new rates. Also I think we would play early than 10 by doing the 2 round pass. Looks like $97.50 vs. $83. Am I correct?

I guess what I need to ask is when you are going and what rate did they say you would actually pay. If you book a golf time on-line it is giving the DVC rate as 25%/40% off the Disney Resort Guest rate. For example, the weekday (Mon-Fri) rate between now and May 16 for "Day Guest" is $164 and for "Resort Guest" is $139 and the rate they are showing when you book DVC on-line is $104.25 before 10 and $83.40 after ten which 25%/40% off that "Resort Guest" rate (weekend rates are higher). The AP rate is 30% off that Day Guest rate or $114.80 for Mon-Fri.

Little confused: which "Golf Pass" are you referring to. The DVC annual golf pass is $50 plus tax. If you paid $83 in Jan (after Jan 14) for after ten time that would be the DVC rate for during the week if you have the DVC annual pass (actually $83.40); before ten it would have been $104.25.

The 2-day pass that you can get (not a DVC discount and available to anyone) is currently $195 (your $97.50 per round) and that can be used for before ten times (and thus cheaper than DVC for before 10 rounds) and also used on weekends (when all rates are higher).

Maybe the best way to show this is as follows:

Weekday (Mon-Fri) between Jan 15 and May 16:

Regular Day Guest Rate: $164
Regular Resort Guest Rate: $139
DVC rate before/after 10: $104.25/$83.40 (which is 25%/40% off Resort Guest rate)
AP rate: $114.80 (which is 30% off Day Guest rate)

Weekend Rates:

Day Guest: $174
Resort Guest: $149
DVC rate before/after 10: $111.75/$89.40 (again off the Resort Guest rate)
AP rate: $121.80 (again off the Day Guest rate)

Two round Disney pass good for any two rounds any time of day and any days of the week including weekends: $195 (or $97.50 per round)

Also all of the above numbers will change significantly when they publish summer rates beginning May 17 because the Day Guest and Resort Guest rates during the summer are generally the lowest of the year and thus the numbers you will be working off of to determine the discounted rate will be much less than what they are now. Moreover, the 2-day pass will be less but you don't know yet whether it will be better than the DVC before 10 rate for two days.

Also, now that I have done this I just realized something. The weekday DVC rate is actually better right now for this time of year than it was under the old system last year when it was $109 before ten and $89 after ten from mid-Jan to end of April. The big difference is that the "summer" rates for DVC always started before at end April and thus were $59/$39 before/after ten for end of April to mid-May last year whereas the summer rates for Disney in general always started mid-May.
