I'm very unfamiliar with what DVC benefits we have regarding golf. We are going in Nov. and I'll be setting up golf for 8 of us(3 are DVC members). How far in advance am I able to set this up? Also, with regard to DVC discounts, does the discount only apply to 10 am or later?

In order to get the DVC discount, you must buy a membership. The 2002 membership is $85 (I think that it runs 12 months from the date you buy the membership). I don't think that the greens fee discounted rate for November has been announced yet.

I don't know the fees for November, but I just made tee times for DH for June. You don't actually buy the card until you get there, but they'll make your tee times assuming you're going to buy one. For this time of year you can book 90 days in advance. And I did all the booking through the WDW-GOLF phone #, they're quite familiar with how it works. And one nice little perk with that one year DVC golf membership is that it includes one free admission to the Golf tournament (Nat'l Car Rental?) in October (but remember, for you, it would be the 2003 tournament). And if you're unsure which golf course to try to book, there's a wonderful website (not sure of the name, think it's www.wdwgolf.com) with all kinds of info about the courses.

If you check the member news section of the web site, I think they are also offering some discounts at Celebration golf. Might be worth considering.

1. DVC discount applies only to rounds after 10 a.m.

2. The discounted price last Oct to Jan was $50 a round which was close to a 30% to 40% discount depending on course. Osprey Ridge is the most expensive course at regular price, followed by Eagle Pines and then by Magnolia, Palm and Lake Buena Vista which tend to be the same price; thus at $50 the discount is largest for Osprey. Likely the discount will be the same this November.

3. You can make tee times up to 90 days in advance by calling 1-407-WDW-GOLF, and it is usually fairly easy to get after 10 times even if you wait to a week or two in advance and often easy just by calling day before; exception is weekends as many local residents play on Sat and Sun.

4. To qualify for a discount, the DVC member needs to purchase a DVC discount card at one of the pro shops (you just buy it first time you go). It is $85 plus tax, thus about $91. That card is good for a year and a little more depending on time of month you buy it. It is good from the month you buy it until the end of the same month a year away. For example, if you buy it November 1, 2002, it is good until November 30, 2003. Thus, if you go to WDW once a year at same time of year, it is possible to reuse the card for that next year's trip.

5. The member can take up to three people with him on one card and all in the group get the discount. Note, with 8 people and if you plan to play in two foursomes at the same time, then only 4 can get the discount with only one card; another member of the DVC member family would have to buy another card to get the rest a discount.

6. The trick to the discount is that you need to play enough rounds to make buying the DVC discount card worthwhile; in other words, your total discounts for your yearly use must exceed the $91 you pay for the discount card to make it worthwhile. If you only play one round a year, it is not worth buying the card.

7. Note, there are also discounts available if you are a Disney Club member. DC members can take up to four total at any time of day, including prime early morning times, and get a 20% discount per person. National Car Rental Emerald Club members get a like discount. And you don't have to buy a special golf discount card to get those discounts.

Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately, we will need an early tee time, so I guess I won't be able to take advantage of this DVC perk. It sure would be nice if DVC owners could have the same 20% off anytime that DC members have. Maybe I'll break down and join DC. I'll ask around and see if any of these 8 guys are DC members already. If anyone knows of any other discounts that might apply to me, please let me know.
