I heard there was a special deal for DVC - has anyone signed up?

Is it worth the package price for 5-6 rounds/yr?

The DVC discount works as follows:

1. You buy a DVC golf card at one of the pro shops first time you show up (you can make tee times before buying). The card costs approximately $91 (after tax is added). It is good for a year.

2. The card gets you the discount but it is available only for rounds after 10 a.m.

4. You and three guests can play and all get the discount.

5. The actual discount varies according to season. You pay $35 per person during the summer months -- at that time of year after 10 regular rates are $45 to $60 depending on course (Magnolia, Palm and lake Buena Vista are the cheapest at regular rates, then Eagle Pines, and then Osprey Ridge is most expensive but your price remains the same for all five) . You pay $50 between October and mid January when regular rates range from $85 to $120. You pay $95 during mid-January through April when regular rates range from $135 to $160. You can make tee times up to 90 days in advance except only 14 days during those mid-Jan to April times.

6. Key to discount is obviously that you need to play enough rounds to assure that the total discounts exceed the price of the annual card. 5 to 6 rounds usually accomplishes that except potentially during the summer time.

7. You should also check other possible discounts before deciding to buy. For example, right now an annual passholder can get get 40% off regular rates at any time of day, and Disney Club members get 20% and those do not require buying any additional card.

I think the "price slice special" for this year has Osprey Ridge (very beautiful course, DH's favorite) at $65 after 10:00, not sure though. I can tell you that for DH, the card was well worth it. For one thing, like some people so with an AP, we timed our trips for mid-June, 2002, then Memorial Day week 2003. That way he got use of it for 2 trips. Also, since he and DS went the second trip, there were a total of 11 individual rounds played with that DVC rate, and I'm sure he would have gladly saved more if I'd let him!

We like to play earlier than 10:00 and try and beat the heat. So we always use the AP discount even though you can't call until 7 days out. We've never had a problem getting on.

Has anyone ever booked a tee time in the 90 day window and then canceled/rebooked at 7 days (actually I think its 14 days) to get the annual pass discount (similar to booking at home resort 11 months out and waitlisting different resort)? Is this possible, I wonder?

Just got back from WDW and played 2 rounds for 139.00. They have a 2 for 1 special, and that included range balls. Call wdw golf and find out the specials. This was better than the DVC discount, although we are not in your boat, we were only going to play 2 rounds. For 4-8+ rounds, get the DVC discount as it is better. FYI, the special I mentioned is for ANYTIME at any WDW course, so we had 7.30 tee times, and finished at 1130, so that was better for me. Call 407 wdw golf and get the info.
Hope this helps!
Great courses, we played LBV and eagle pines. Osprey is the hardest one, and we avoided that one!!
good luck

In answer to PeteLachel's question: nothing prevents you from doing what you propose and, in fact, even if you reserve more time out, they usually still honor the discount. Note, I have never had any trouble getting a time close to what I want at 14 days out except for early morning weekend times (Sat and Sun) when you have many local residents playing. Even then you can usually get a time close to what you want as long as you are flexible on what course you play. In fact, I have always been able to get a time that I want, but not necessarily the course, by calling two days in advance.
