Anyone seen the ridicolous prices disney uk are selling ssr/okw for including ddp, seems like ssr/okw are now no more than just normal hotels to be sold by travel agents, this is no longer the dvc i bought into :confused3

Disney has always made DVC rooms available to the general public. What prices are they going for?

It's just Disney's way of filling unused rooms. OKW and SSR have so many rooms, plus Disney keeps a certain amount of inventory for renting out as cash rooms like any other resort.

If they're renting rooms cheap, just consider how relatively cheap resales for OKW and SSR are right now.

A couple of years ago they upgraded people staying at All Star to SSR to fill the empty rooms during free dining. All Star was full and they knew they were more likely to rent an All Star room than a SSR room. Plus maybe some of those upgraded would buy DVC.

It's a tough economy out there, still. I wouldn't worry too much about it. It will bounce back.

Fine with me if it draws more visitors to central Florida and WDW. And if they get hooked on DVC villas, even better. I would not worry about short term value disruptions. DVC is a longer term value proposition.

I wouldn't say it's all bad, I'm taking advantage of this to get a great deal at OKW. I'm not using my DVC points this year, and we weren't planning to go to the world at all, but this has enabled us to take 2 weeks. It'll feel like home just as any other DVC resort would and I'm really looking forward to it.

Who cares if Disney is renting rooms at SSR for a low price? I've been lucky to find Passholder room discounts at this resort for about $150 a night on the weekend which allowed me to save my DVC points. Do I think this low rate reduces the quality of the resort? Absolutely not. Saratoga Springs is a deluxe resort with wonderful amenities. If Disney is able to offer these rooms for a discount rate, this just means that one more family will get to experience the magic of Disney. I love seeing the smile on a child's face when they encounter the parks for their first time. My 2 year old daughter has been around 14 times and she still gets overwhelmed with all that Disney has to offer. Our last trip was only 8 weeks ago but she is already asking to go see Mickey Mouse again. Whatever rate a family receives for a Disney vacation, the experience is priceless. :thumbsup2

if i wanted to buy a dvc resort that i would see in a travel brochure i would of bought at the board walk, i bought at ssr as it was a stand alone resort with disney retaining 4% for refurbishments etc if you think its a deluxe resort ( i did when we bought) disney uk are not selling it at a deluxe price far from it

my concern is how these low CRO rates will impact member dues. Not sure if DVC has contracted rates with DCL, AVD, etc, so the concern is whether the CRO rates they can get for rooms in this economy will cover what they have to pay when members trade out, as well as for the needed refurbishments, etc...

Slightly OT but I know what you mean about the low priced ressies through CRO. We just booked WLV for June 20th for 1 night with an AP rate (it was cheaper then the DVC discount) for a WLV studio I paid $235. CRO wanted $308 for a room in the lodge over looking the courtyard. I was very suprised at such a large price difference.

What am I doing wrong? I got the same email '42% off' and including tickets and free dining, my figure was £187 per night ($307) for the 1 bedroom at either SSR or OKW. :confused3

This saving represents up to £1,600* when you book two weeks at Disney's Old Key West Resort or Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa.

This fantastic offer includes accommodation, Disney's 14-Day Ultimate Ticket for the price of Disney's 7-Day Premium Ticket, and Disney Dining Plan for free.
Offer ends 15 July 2009.

The offer is good for stays between 2nd August and 17th December.

I've seen comments along the lines of 'Why would you buy into DVC when you can get offers like this?' At the moment, it does seem to be true.

You might have wanted to review Disney history regarding OKW, which has often had rooms available through CRO at very low rates and has a very similar profile to SSR - a standalone resort.

Disney has never been able to get Deluxe prices for SSR/OKW - in part because they ARE standalone resorts and Disney can't leverage the marketing that is in place for WL, the Y&BC or BW. And the hotel arm of Disney isn't interested in throwing marketing dollars at resorts that aren't part of their portfolio.

DVC'ers can't have their cake and eat it, too. If members want to be able to do "other" things like cruises, hotels, etc. Disney has to be able to rent the rooms to get the $$$ to pay for it. If DVC members rent out their points for low prices, they make it that much harder for Disney to demand top dollar for the accomodations. These tough times for tourism leave Disney with the choice of empty rooms vs. getting something. As the rental market increases, Disney faces a tougher challenge keeping DVC prices competitive.
