Okay, I really only have one question.....
I have searched and seen posts that say yes and posts that say no.
Can you use your points to stay at say POR if you wanted to. I went to a sales pitch 2 years ago, and I am pretty sure they said yes, but I have seen no here as well.
Thanks for the help!

Yes, you can use your points to stay at any of the WDW moderate resorts.

You can also use them at any of the deluxe resorts except: WL, BC, or BWI

You can use them for a Fort Wilderness cabin or campsite.

You cannot use them at any of the value WDW resorts.

There is a $95 fee (per reservation) to use your points at a non-DVC WDW resort.

I used my points at POFQ last October for 1 night (18 points) added to a business trip in Orlando. That was before the $95 fee. I probably would not do it again because the AP rate was $125 plus tax, why spend $95 and 18 points.

Apparently I lied!

Since I felt I had the answer figured out (no). Now that it is a yes, how do the points compare say to stay at POR in say the adventure season (low)
Thanks for the help!!

Now AKV is open I am sure AKL is on the no go list for deluxe resorts allowing DVC points.

Between the $95 fee and the high point costs, it is not a great use of points to stay at one of the non DVC WDW resorts. If you look at the point charts, it can cost a ton of points.

Claire - You are correct. I missed that one. Thanks for catching it. :)

Daver - For 2008, a standard view room at any of the moderates in the least expensive season is 16 points for a weeknight and 30 points for a Friday or Saturday night. And on top of that, you will pay a non refundable $95 fee just to make the reservation.

DVC and non-DVC seasons do not exactly line up, but at its cheapest, a standard view at POR would cost you 16/30 (16 points sun-thur, 30 points fri/sat).

12/22 points would get a studio at BWV (with boardwalk/preferred view) or BCV, and that doesn't even account for the $95.

Really, using points for non-DVC resorts is not cost-effective. The points cost is high.

Now AKV is open I am sure AKL is on the no go list for deluxe resorts allowing DVC points.

AKL is no longer in the points charts.

Thanks all!
We are a family of 5 and I though there may be the odd occasion we may need sleeping for 5 so I want to look at options.... it is better to rent the points out and pay for POR or bank the points for the next year then.
You guys rock!
Thanx

Well you would be able to sleep the 5 at AKV easier than you can at POR.
Thanks all!

Okay, here we go with another last question :stitch2: .... how important is it to have points in the resort you are booking at? In other words, because of the shorter booking time, is it that much more difficult to say book AKL if you own Vero?

:cool1:

If you want to go at popular times, then yes, its important to own at the resort you want to stay at. Room size can matter as well.

VWL, BCV and BWV are all hard to get at certain times of the year.

If you are more flexible, then it doesn't matter as much. I was able to get a studio at BCV at 4 months for July last year, but couldn't get a 2BR for the first week of December despite being on the waitlist since July.

Thanks all!

Or you could have a DVC stay in a 1 bedroom at AKV, which will sleep 5, or any DVC 2 bedroom.

is it that much more difficult to say book AKL if you own Vero?

owning at vero or HH is risky for a couple of reasons:

1) if you want to go to wdw at a high demand time, you risk getting locked out.

2) annual dues are higher, and will likely increase at a faster rate than the wdw resorts.

resale points off-property are cheaper for a reason...but it may still work out to a good deal if you have a lot of flexibility and the dues stay under control (or obviously, if you want to stay at VB/HH.)

okay okay, this IS the last question ( I can think of now anyway! :rotfl: )
What would be a reasonable bid on a resale that is at about $83.00> WOuld $80.00 be too low?

Thanks everyone for your help!

Daver

i would pretty much guarantee a 40 pt OKW contract won't pass ROFR at $80. the guys at TTS would know a good price to recommend, but for that few pts, i'd go ahead and pay at least $84-85...

edited to add: i guess it also depends on whether the contract is stripped or not...

(and i was surprised that some small OKW contracts have made it through at $80...so maybe it would be worth it to take your chances...)
