My husband and I just purchased a DVC membership and are giving it to our two children as their Christmas present. I am trying to think of a creative way to wrap/present it to them on Christmas morning. Any good ideas? :confused3 They are 8 & 10 year old girls. I really want it to be wowing, since it is the only gift under the tree from Mom and Dad.

maybe a big poster of Cinderella's castle :confused3
and a bill for all the years of maintainence fees  (if you're giving it to them, they ought ot pay the fees right? :lmao: )

I think it might be tough to generate excitement on Christmas morning over DVC as a gift, for an 8 and 10 year old (not to say it's not exciting - it definitely is - but our kids are that age and they still don't really "get" DVC, you know).

Maybe something that involves the big DVC book - did you get one of those hardback books? Or the DVC DVD? I'm stumped on how to really express to kids that age what it really means and make it a gift.

Agreed. We asked our kids this year if they wanted Santa to bring them a Disney trip for Christmas, instead of "presents". (Because, let's be honest, Mom and Dad want to go see the decorations.)

The 8 year old, in particular, was not ready to give up "presents". It's a lovely gift (and if you want a guaranteed-to-appreciate-it child, I am available for adoption) but I would not get too invested in the kids jumping around the room.

They will be getting presents from Santa so maybe that will help....but still looking for a creative idea.

I would try to come up with something that explains or shows the length of the membership or the oppurtunities that can come from it. For example: a calander or a list trips you could take over the coarse of the membership or even the next few years. I explain this concept to my kids everytime we talk about DVC. DVC is "the gift that keeps on giving!"

Do you know when you will be taking your first trip as DVC members? If so, why don't you make the first reservation and create a nice packet describing what it will be like for your kids (i.e. if you pick the AKV, then you can print out the pictures of your villa, pictures of the resort, pictures of some of the animals, etc.). If I were a child, knowing when we will be going to Disney and all the details, would really excite me.

Just a thought....

BTW, Congratulations on your purchase!

Julia

:lmao:

Although I only highlighted the funny part of Brian's comment, I do agree with his entire post. No doubt that you have spent thousands upon thousands of dollars for DVC, but your kiddos aren't really going to see it as a gift until they are actually waltzing down Main Street. I would have an actual trip booked so you can give them something tangible to look forward to. Good luck. :goodvibes

watching the DVC DVD is fun--if you don't have it--call your guide and have them send you one--you might get it for Christmas. Also, ask if they can put the WDW planning DVD in it---it does the top 10 WDw things, etc.
OTherwise, the guidebook--or print out photos of all the cool pools and Community HAlls (kids room) from allears.net.
