Hubby is applying for jobs in the Orlando area! :cool1:

While we of course have no idea if we're moving there yet or not, I can't help but start planning and dreaming. One of the things I'm sure I'd do would be to get a part time or even seasonal temp job with the Mouse, for cast member benefits. Not sure what division yet, but I digress...

My question is this: What cast member discounts are available on a DVC purchase, are there any catches or caveats, and are promotions ever available when you buy this way (like can you participate in advertised promotions)?

Thanks in advance!

We added on last summer when DH was working as a CM. We didn't need the points, but the deal was too good to pass up. We were able to take advantage of all the advertised discounts, plus an additional 15% (I believe). I don't remember any restrictions on the purchase.

How many hours do you have to work? Just be employed, period? Can seasonal cm's buy?

I had been told that CM's can not sell their points on the open market. If they decide to sell later, DVD takes them back at a pre-determined price.

Does anyone know if working at TDS counts? I know it's now owned by the Children's Place, but thought some of the perks still exisited. TIA!

I believe there are no theme park benefits of any kind, any more, for Disney Store hourly employees. I think managers may get a little sumpthin'.

I also think Childrens Place is losing money on the stores, so lord knows how long they will own them.

That is correct. If purchased with a CM discount, you cannot sell on the open market. We were members for many years before I became a CM, so I was not bound by that when we sold ours.

We bought ours with a 25% discount plus the $10 off/point for SSR at the time while DS was a CP.

Our contract says that Disney must first be contacted when we decide to sell so that they have the option to buy back at the original purchase price; an option they may decide not to exercise, thus freeing us to sell on the open market.

We also cannot rent points, but that's okay with me.

When I joined MS earlier this year, we were told Disney would buy back at a *predetermined* rate. ROFR was never mentioned as an option. They may have tightened the restrictions. We were told they would buy back at the rate we paid. I guess that's the predetermined rate. :-) One of the perks of getting such a great rate at the front end.

We passed ROFR at $87 when we sold out BWV contract in August, but it was purchased years ago before we became CM's.

Just FYI, I contacted DVC today (sent a letter last month) about selling our CM-discounted SSR contract and was given the go-ahead to put it on the open market and was advised about ROFR. Our contract states the same thing, they have 30 days to decide to exercise their option of re-purchase, otherwise you can sell it.
