Does anyone know if DVC leaves something in your room for your first time visit as a DVC member? Just trying to figure out so I know whether to order something for our room for my boys!! Any help or hints would be fabulous...I just want to know what to expect and what to plan!!:yay:

We just had our first visit Labor Day and we got a bathroom towel shaped like Mickey! Cheapskates,,,

Wow...that's all!! I really am surprised!! I was hoping there would be something!:confused3

I am the first one to call out DVC for dumping perks, or not living up to expectations, BUT...
This one blows me away.

In answer to the question:

We didn't get anything... nor were we expecting anything. I'm pretty sure that DVC doesn't offer anything to new purchasers, but I could be wrong and maybe we missed out.

My suggestion would be to do for your children so that nobody is disappointed.

Enjoy your first visit!

To answer your question directly, no; DVC does not provide a gift for new members on their first visit with their points, nor should they.

Please remember that Disney Vacation Club (timeshare management company) and Disney Vacation Development (timeshare sales) are two seperate entities. Since you gave your money to DVD, it is possible they provided you with a gift of some sort when you signed the contracts (a tote, towel, ears, etc).

Any gift provided by DVC for your room would be paid for with member dues, thus it is likely you will not be getting anything for simply using your points.

If you would like a room gift from DVD, you can call your guide and ask about it. Otherwise, I don't think members will vote positively on this at the next annual board meeting (just a guess).

If this information is in error, someone please correct me, so we can learn together. You can order gifts for your kids directly through Disney's floral shop or through several shops in Buena Vista specializing in such items.

Good luck.

OP - If you happen to book a DCL trip, even on cash, make sure to check in with the DVC person in the terminal. You'll get lots of little goodies & invites to meets where you have a chance to get more stuff;).

As for ordering anything in your room @ Disney, when my kids were young, i'd order stuff @ disneyshopping & secret it away in luggage along with some disney dollars, depositing it on bed before we let kids enter the room.

enjoy your 1st trip home.:goodvibes

Nothing nada, funnny thing is over the years we have gotten mini coolers, mickey desk clock and pins when booking through AAA travel (travel agent would always call her Disney rep and ask if there was anything Disney would do for "good" clients that travel every year!) So much for that! Oh well still quite happy with our purchase, but I do think 1st visit deserve some sort of welcome whether it be a pin, fast passes whatever it would be a nice touch.

They will leave dishes in the cabinets. Towels in the bathroom. Normal stuff. But nothing for being a first time DVC guest. If you want a surprise for your family, you'll need to get that yourself.

As others have already stated, no, they don't leave anything. Make certain you tell them it is your first time and they may give you all a first time pin upon checkin...my youngest son got one on his first visit and still keeps it on his lanyard.

I believe that you can go online and look at some of the things they have through the florist (I believe) like pails and shovels, candy baskets, that sort of thing. You can also order food ahead, which is a nice surprise for you if you check in after 4:00, it should be waiting for you. My friend also ordered food through the greengrocer and had some candy thing for her kids. She liked their service.

Have fun.

My kids are older 13 and 16, we just had our first DVC stay in July at VGC. I called the resort there and had them make a basket with DVC mugs in it. They purchased those for me with my credit card. Then added balloons, Mickey rice krispies, etc. It came with a big bow that said "Welcome Home" with my kids names. They didn't know we had purchased DVC and that was our way to let them know. It was a fun moment. Maybe something along those lines would work for you. Good luck.

On our first DVC visit to our home AKV they asked if we were celebrating anything when I made our reservation. I mentioned that it was our first visit as DVC members. One night when we came back to our room there was a card that said "welcome home" from the front desk staff and there was 2 Zebra domes! That was unexpected and a lovely surprise. But, I had ordered a basket with 2 DVC mugs and a bunch of snacks from the Disney florist and that came a couple days later. :)

OP- Thanks for asking that question, I was thinking the same thing!
However, we have no little kiddies, and no grandchildren yet- but I still might order us something to welcome us home!:wizard:princess:

we were told by our guide that on your first trip home they leave you a surprise gift...we then bought resale....first trip home no gift but I thought it was because we bought re-sale.

I did like the gift of not having to fork over a fortume for the 1 bedroom :)

We ordered some stuff from disney shopping and it should (fingers crossed) be there when we get there in 9 days :cool1:

:rotfl: Love it!

Personally, walking in and seeing the villa and all of its charm, no matter which resort, was enough of a surprise for my then 4 year old son! He's almost 14 now and he still loves walking into the villa and finding the Disney Mickey towel thing, or whatever other life form they've managed to make out of a wash cloth a few sticky dots for eyes!

When we stay at hotels when not in Disney, he always comments on the disapointement that not all of our accomodations are like the DVC resorts!

If you want to spare the expense of delivering something, in the early years I would buy him something like Mickey chocolates etc. at the general store, after check in, while his Dad watched him and I'd put it somewhere where he could find it when we went into the villa!

Enjoy your stay!

We got a Welcome Home message on our villas phone from our guide. He mentioned since we have never met face to face perhaps this next visit we could meet up. Maybe that's because we've added on a few times and sent him a referral. We've always enjoyed talking to our guide and he calls us off and on or sometimes we call or email him with a question. But gifts no. We did receive a tote bag when we joined. Funny thing is, it's so heavy that we don't use it much.

So if you want the kiddies to have a welcome gift in the room. Either bring one with you or order it ahead of time. BTW, it might be hard to coordinate it being in the room when you get there as your room will be ready when it's cleaned. And nobody knows when that will be.

I have a little story about our first stay. Don't let this sink in too much... I'm sure it doesn't happen these days.

On arrival at BWV a little after 3 pm we were very excited and in awe of the lobby. We walked right up to a CM and started our check-in process. The CM made a point of recognizing this was our first stay. During our check-in the computer system went down... and the word was it could be for hours. Well the room was issued, but they couldn't print the room keys. No way for us to move into our room. Many apologies came and I am sure our facial expressions went from yahoo! to now what do we do? Then DW asked "can we buy our park tickets here and now? The CM said "certainly, you haven't purchased your park tickets yet? Then she opened a drawer and said "here you go"... "hope this makes up for your inconvenience on your first stay. She gave us four, 5 day park hopper passes. FREE! DW and I were over and over saying to each other "this is why we joined DVC"... Not for the free passes, but the making sure we were happy. This was 1998, and a true story. I'm guessing that doesn't happen much anymore.

No freebies in our room back in 2002, but our guide left a "welcome home" message on our phone that first time. Even though it was probably some computer generated report that prompted his call....it still made us feel special.
