While reading some of the posts on the DVC discussion board the other day, I encountered a comment which I found greatly disturbing.

quote:
Perhaps those of us that actually work in areas where the "Northeasterners" vacation understand their attitudes better than they do. They come and go, but the attitude never changes.[/quote]
I was offended that such a derogatory comment was permitted on the discussion board. Consider this --- choose a certain race, ethnicity, or religion. Now plug that group of people into the quote above in place of the word âÂÂnortheasternersâÂÂ. Do you suppose that that comment âÂÂtargeting races, ethnicities, or religions â would be permitted? Not only would the comment hold NO relevance to DVC topics, but it would be a discriminatory attack on a certain segment of society. Is that any different than insulting a group of people based solely upon their region of residence?

I understand that the rules of this Discussion Board do not permit âÂÂpersonal attacksâ and are subject to deletion. Does this not also apply to attacks against groups of people?

While I was troubled by the hurtful comment about Northeasterners, I am still optimistic that most DVC members are tolerant of our differences. We should celebrate in our diversity âÂÂthat is what makes us such a distinctive and exceptional âÂÂDVC FamilyâÂÂ!
