For those of you who are DVC members and used points and cash, were the DVC cash rates comparable to that you could find through an internet travel agent?

If I need two cabins, but only one with points, and an internet agent rate is cheaper, how risky would it be to rent one cabin through an agent at a 16-month window, and then the other cabin through DVC at the 11-month window?

I found that using points to rent on the cruise cost us about twice what we could get the cabin for from Costco or Sam's club. We did travel on points twice, but I found if you do a quick calculation of $10.00 per point, you will find it is cheaper to pay cash and use your points for the DVC resorts. :earsboy: :earsgirl: :earsgirl: :earsgirl: :earsgirl:

If you are referring to the cash that a member pays when he/she uses points to pay for part of the cabin, the the price you are charge is comparable to the EBS price. This can be lower or higher than what is charged by the internet companies depending on how full the ship is.

If you are looking to book a room solely on cash (one room on points and one room on cash), you will not be able to do this through MS. MS only books the cabins if a portion of it is being paid for with points. If this is your plans - book the cash room with the best travel agency as soon as possible. The price only increases for TAs as the ship fills up.

If you are inquiring about renting extra points to book a cabin - see above. Renting points for a cruise is not economical at all.

(Note: if you plan to use a combination of points and cash - you must pay for at least one adult with points. you also must pay for each person individually with points or cash. You can not split a single person into two types of payment)

We found that the cash rate for the additional traveler was much higher than the early booking rate for the same dates. We ended up booking one room outside of DVC, and then at 11 months booked our room through DVC. We were still able to get connecting rooms fortunately.
