I saw the deal in the latest Vacation Magic. Is anyone going to take advantage of it? I'm thinking about it.

I'll check into it. My oldest dtr fumed :furious: when she heard of all the potential parental controls. :smokin:

We thought of it, but the provider of the Disney service does not have very good coverage up here.

I've not checked it out yet, can someone tell me who the service provider is?

I think it is Sprint. Everyone I know has Verizon and I just upgraded our phones and am locked into another two years anyway unless I want to pay the cancellation fee. Most of my minutes are free though since everyone I know is "in" LOL. Can you hear me now? :thumbsup2

I have a pay as you go phone so I'm also thinking about it.

Me too! I am currently using Virgin Mobile, but I have realized that my 12 year old son needs a phone for when he locks himself out of the house  I like the parental controls, and the DVC perks. As soon as more information becomes available, I will look into joining up with Disney Mobile.

Also get 5 times rewards point from Disney Visa.

DW and I are wanting to look into this. Sadly they do not start taking orders till May 31st. We leave to drive to Disney World on the 2nd of June. DW and I along with DD would love to have these new phones for our trip.

Which brings me to a question. Does anyone know if there will be a kiosk at like Downtown Disney selling service and phones to people? I currently have three phones through Nextel (Sprint) and would like to keep my existing numbers.

I may call them on the 31st and see if I can order and get them delivered overnight. :cool1:

IN is the way for us as well! I Hear you Mamtojohn! :) When we moved a few years ago, the only service in our "small town" was Verizon. All of our family members back home got Verizon so we are all "IN" now.

It appears you still have to go online to download Mickey tunes with this new Disney phone service. You'd think it would be part of the package instead of having to get this as a download. (unless I misunderstood the article.)

We have Verizon too, but are out of contract and plan on staying that way until we know the features and carrier.

Just curious if there is anymore information on the new service?!?

TIA,

Jeff

I appreciate the help and perhaps I should have qualified my question further. The Disney Mobile website hasn't been updated for a few months, and it doesn't really give me any details on who is going to be the carrier of the service (Sprint, Verizon, etc.) and what are the plan costs.

I was told that DVC members received a promtional mailer which goes into more detail (at least I hope it does).

We have a family plan with Verizon which works well for us, but if the new service comes with a carrier with a lot of coverage and the plan cost is reasonable we will sign up with Diseny Mobile.

Does anyone have any information on carrier and price plans?

Jeff

Sorry about that ... didn't know you had seen the website ... I haven't done much checking on the site until I read your reply ... and you're right ... doesn't seem to be much there. :(

I did receive the mailer in my Vacation Magic, but there doesn't appear to be much there either ... it points you to the website for more details. It does list the promotional code for the free carrying case.

The only price I saw listed was $59.95, and I'm guessing that was for the handset. The Family Features are nice ... especially the locator ... Heehee! ;)

ITA...and I would be willing to pay more for this feature and other cool Disney downloads, but not if the service results in lost calls or bad reception. If it is Sprint I would probably pass.

Hopefully Disney Mobile will release more details soon.

The network behind these phones is definitely Sprint. I don't think they are up and running yet, even if you can place an order by now.

Just a word of caution: Since this is a brand new service using brand new phones, you may want to wait a bit until the bugs get worked out before signing any long-term contracts. There are also similar-style phones and plans coming very soon from other carriers, so if you are happier with a different provider, just hang on and you can get the same kinds of child safety features from the network you already like.

I love Disney and I wish my phone had more Disney features like ringtones, but I'm not willing to put up with bad coverage or bad customer service.
