I would assume that this has been asked a million times but I could not find the answer by searching. Sorry! I just booked a 1 bedroom at the VWL using points in April of 2008. My question is do they usually offer a DVC discount on rooms at this time of year. If so, how good is the discount? We are also going to buy AP's. Is this a better discount? Also if I book the weekend using points, can I convert it to cash if a discount becomes available? I'm new to DVC. So, forgive these newbie questions. Thanks

When available, the DVC member discount is 25% off the rack rate. The first priority for MS is to reserve villas using DVC points - but when past history or current reservation trends suggest that any villas will not be reserved using points, the villa may be made available for the cash discount. There is no DVC discount available at non-DVC resorts.

At times, the AP discount may be better than the member discount - but that reservation cannot be linked to the DVC reservation and it's possible you'd need to change rooms. AP discounts cannot be reserved thru MS. If you have a night reserved using points, it cannot later be converted to a cash reservation without cancelling the night. Usually, weekend nights are the most available for the discount. Sometimes the DVC discount may be available at 11 months, but more often it won't become available until 6-7 months prior - if at all.

We have reserved the cash nights on many occasions without the discount and have always later been pleasantly surprised to see the discount applied automatically.

Enjoy!
