Dvc discount for cash rooms ? Resale?

I am hoping someone could clarify what it means when someone says they were short some points so they used the dvc discount for cash rooms? What does this exactly mean? Is this discount available if you own a resale contract?

First of all using your points for a DVC stay is what the system is all about. If you use your points for anything else, you will probably end up spending more money and/or only be offered accommodations that are surplus, that includes RCI, DCL and Disney cash rooms.

When and if available DVC owners can rent a room through MS for a 25% discount off of Disney's rack rate. You may find a better deal direct or through orbitz or renting from another owner.

I've done it both ways - used the member discount (25%) or added a night with an AP rate (which was more than 25% off). This was awhile ago, before renting become readily available. The advantage with the member discount is they can link the reservations so you don't have to checkout and check back in. With an AP rate, you do and risk having to change rooms. In my case, I didn't.

Yes, members who purchased their points via resale can also take advantage of the member cash discount (subject to availability, of course).
