Last week I was in a Disney store and when checking out I accidentally handed the girl my DVC card instead of my Disney Club card. She never blinked, and gave me the 10% discount I was entitled to with the DC card. Did I miss something? Was this woman wrong in giving me the discount, or as a DVC member are we entitled to this discount also? Thanks.

She was correct in giving you the discount. The DVC discount is not good for park passes, but is good for everything else including some art items not valid with the DC card.

ralphd:D :D :D :D :D

Although we, as DVCer's, received the discount at the store, we are not entitled to the 10% if calling the disney catalog or using disneystore.com. Seems like someone should fix that!!!:bounce:

I agree that the DVC should offer more clout than pool hopping. DVC members should have discounts at Marketplace, priority seating, DS, D.com and other retail organizations.

I was starting to think that my DVC card was worthless. L

last week, and in our member perks, it stated that DVC members can get a discount at all downtown disnet stores, however each cast member only wanted to see an american express card. Oh well, I still got a discount. But I was kind of annoyed that they would not give me a discount just with the DVC card.

The only reason DVC members get a disount at some of the DD stores (and you have to be staying at a WDW resort to qualify) is the American Express White Glove Program. Other than through that program, DVC members have never had any merchandise discounts in Downtown Disney stores.

It would be nice, though!

Here's the specifics of the White Glove Program from the Members' Website - Note that it ends on 12/31/2002

American Express White Glove Program
NOTE: The American Express White Glove discount is part of a special offer developed by American Express and offered to DVC members. American Express is discontinuing this program as of December 31, 2002. Therefore, the shopping discount through this program will not longer be available to DVC Members after this date.

Disney Vacation Club Members are currently eligible for merchandise discounts offered through the American Express White Glove Program. The offer includes discounts at several Downtown Disney® stores (see program information and guidelines below).

Offer - Effective through December 31, 2002; receive a 10% discount on merchandise purchases of $25.00 or more (per single transaction at each individual location) at the following locations ONLY:
Downtown Disney® Marketplace - World of Disney, Disney's Days of Christmas, Team Mickey, Pooh Corner, and Disney at Home. Downtown Disney Pleasure Island - Mouse House and DTV.

Guidelines - Both a valid Walt Disney World Resort ID and an American Express Card must be presented at the time of purchase (the purchase must be charged to either the American Express card or charged back to your resort room if charging privileges have been established). The discount is not valid at any locations other than the ones listed above and cannot be combined with any other special offers. The offer is not applicable to Disney ticket media, gift certificates, videos, Disney Dollars, food items, film, tobacco, sundries, periodicals, alcoholic beverages, Lladro, Armani, Hummel, Swarovski Crystal and other selected merchandise.

When I just recently made a purchase at my local Disney Store I asked about the DVC discount and the girl said she never heard of it -- not surprised -- and then asked her manager who told her to ask someone else who would know for sure  but that person was not around so I just paid regular price and left -- I want to go back to have them adjust it but I don't know if they would -- it would be about $7.00 -- better in my pocket I say!

WDWalways,

You should definitely go back and have them adjust it. I just used my DVC card yesterday on halloween costumes and a couple of stuffed Beuty and the Beast items. They are suppose to give you the discount and if they don't ask to call member services and have them talk to them.

$7 bucks is $7 bucks, and you should be able to put that in your pocket or the very least buy some more stuff...

Good Luck!

Our DS gives us discounts in park tickets too! (I know they are not supposed too!) But they did say that when the DC goes away they do not know if they will be giving discounts at all to DVC members any more.

Funny, I guess I frequent my local DS so much they don't even ask for my member card, they just give me the discount. I recently em'd MS with a suggestion about the Member Perks mini-guide.How many of us have wondered, while at DW, which places honor DVC discounts? I suggested, in addition to or in place of the guide, that they should consider the idea of a placard or sticker to be placed at each establishment that honors DVC discounts. Sure would take the guess work out of the *do they or don't they* question.:)

Laura24, I like that idea. It would sure make it easier and I might even be inclined to buy more stuff!!

Well, since they are ditching AE as the official card (thank goodness, I hate AE) wonder what they will do now?

Maybe the new Disney credit card will offer a benefit similar to the AmEx program. Could be kind of a sweet deal for Disney compared to the AmEx deal. They offer a 10% discount in their stores and get a piece of the transaction back (or pay credit card company less) because the purchase was made with "their " credit card. Actually, I think the merchant pays the credit card company a percentage of the sale for handling the payment/collection. I'm betting Disney has negotiated a lower percentage for its new card than it had for AmEx. Of course, Disney will probably get a piece of every purchase regardless of the store.

Anyway, my original point was that there was never any on site merchandise discount associated with DVC membership. The AmEx discount was available to all on site guests.

Any excuse for shopping is fine with me....."but *HONEY*... I got a great discount on it.* I look at any discount opportunity at DW as a little bit of savings towards our member dues. For every three dollars or so that we save, kind of off sets those dues each month just a bit.
