DVC direct purchase taking away 2020 points with new contracts?

We have been considering our first DVC purchase for the last few months. I just heard from our DVC guide that DVC will stop offering 2020 points with a 2021 purchase prior to UY after this week. This is so frustrating, this was one of the reasons we were considering direct. I really want to make the right decision for us with this purchase but now I feel rushed. This is so frustrating. Has anyone else heard this? ☹

It's possible that you only heard part of what the Guide was saying. Were you talking about something with a June UY by any chance? If so, on Tuesday we will be in the 2021 UY for June (as we already are for Feb, Mar, and Apr) and that would explain what the Guide was saying.

I suppose there is an outside chance that this is changing to relieve some of the pressure created by the glut of unused points held over from the pandemic closures, but I suspect it is less likely and, if true, temporary.

I think it would be hard for them to try and sell you something that doesn’t include what you are paying for when you buy.

Starting Tuesday, those 2020 points are only for Aug, Sept, Oct and Dec. i certainly would not buy if I was not getting current UY points.

They have always spun it as though you were getting something extra, when in fact you are not.

In another post you indicated that you wanted BLT & based on your travel plans an Oct. or Dec. use year.
The guides have targets I’m sure, one would be to sell the new resort - Riviera, another might be to sell certain use years.
Getting ‘extra’ points is not a Riviera special perk. Getting current use year points when you purchase direct at any resort has been the norm for as long as I‘ve been reading about DVC.
In your shoes I’d ask for another guide, I realize they are salespeople, but if you want BLT and an Oct/Dec use year (which would include 2020 points) then you should be able to buy that w/out the pressure to meet DVC’s Riviera sales quota for May.

Thank you! I totally agree. We didn't ask for a Riviera quote, nor did we indicate interest in Riveria. I think this is part of the reason I was so confused by his call today. When I spoke with him we were deciding between BWV and BLT only. I did tell him we had decided on an Oct/Dec use year today but still did not come away with a clear answer about the 2020 points.

Sold out resorts are not always available in every UY because if they don’t have any contracts with current UY points, they usually can’t sell it.

It is possible that is why it was mentioned. They can change a UY, but that contract still has to have the points,

For example, if they had an Aug UY 202 points, they can change it to October or Dec UY and sell it. However, if that same Aug UY was out of 2020, it can’t. And of course, any UY already in it’s 2021 UY can’t be changed.
