Me and my husband plus some friends are planning a trip to DW Dec 2006. We usually rent DVC points for our stay however last September we accessed the free dining plan and loved it.

Does anyone have information about renting points and accessing the dining plan. My biggest concern is how to handle using a credit card to hold the plan. As I do not personally know anyone who owns DVC does that mean I will have to entrust someone I do not know with my credit card number to reserve the dining plan.

Thanks for your help and advice

I don't think anyone knows the details to this yet..but I am bumping you up, so maybe some one has the answer.

Similar Question: I am renting points in April, 2006. Is it possible to get the Dining Plan as a DVC renter?

We believe the answer to this question is yes.

Nothing has been published to members as of yet, however. Look for details to be available the first part of January. Members may add the Dining Plan beginning on January 3 - for stays after Aptil 1, 2006.

Best wishes -

No one knows yet. Keep an eye out for more info beginning in January.

FWIW, you are trusting the DVC member when you rent your points. IMHO, the potential for losing money with that transaction is more than trusting that same person with your credit card (if that becomes necessary and it may not). Most credit cards limit the holder's liability to $50 for fraudulent use - some are even as low as $0. JMHO. YMMV.

As a DVC "guest/renter" you are able to call member services to confirm your reservation & make arrangements for Magic Express. I'd imagine you'd be able to call them to set up the dining plan and give them your credit card at that time. Only time will tell :)

It was posted that dinning plan costs would be paid for at time of check-in, part of the discussion at the annual meetings. If this stays the same, no need to worry about the credit card issue.

I am so up for this plan, the DDE dosen't make sense for me as I don't drink and mostly do solo trips now. This plan is so close to the old dinning plans we use to do when we booked package trips before DVC. Pre-paid food, a blessing for the wallet and fanny pack, so much less money to carry around.

I think that renters will be able to add the dining plan to their reservation, but we're just going to have to wait to find out all the details.

I didn't think renters were allowed to call MS and access that kind of info. :confused3 Guess that's another thread.........

When I've been given my confirmation letter it also has MS phone # on it. You can call ONLY if you have a confirmation number. MS can confirm that there is indeed a reservation in your name, the dates & requests. The owner is the only person who can make any changes to the reservation (dates, etc.). MS did add a "request" to my reservation (upper floor) - they definately could not make any changes unless the owner called.

I didn't make my ME reservation until the day before I was scheduled to leave Disney (we arrived via rental car). From our room we called MS - they gave us the number to call ME directly.

Being able to call directly & confirm that you actually do have a reservation is a key point to me as a renter - it gives me a great deal of comfort to hear directly from the source that I do indeed have a place to sleep :teeth:

Does anyone know what it will cost to buy the dining plan? I sure wish it would kick in sooner for my trip in March. I love to eat and this might really help me.

We never carry much cash around the world. We charge everything to our room. All we carry is our "Key to the World". The four of us could never eat over $150 worth of food every day, so the dining plan won't work for us. We just eat where and when we feel like it and charge it to our room. DDE works best for us.

Only members should use the 800 number for MS since we pay for it. However, renters can use the non-800 number. But I don't know what that is.

It's 407-566-3800.

P.S. FWIW, I think the cost of the 800 number is quite small relative to the amount of time required for each MS transaction. The real cost of MS is the labor.
